Don't want to offend with this question, but I'm sure I will

I hate to even post this concern but here goes!

We have booked our next trip for the first week in June (1st -10th) As many of you may know Gay Day is held the first weekend in June. I have no problem with anyone who is gay. My problem is any large group kind of taking over the parks. If you're not part of the group it becomes uncomfortable. I think about the day before Grad Night....loads of teens!

Just wondering about the best way to be there and not get caught up in the crowd.

And ...... I hope I haven't started anything.....surely don't mean too!:(

I have been in the parks twice during the Gay Days Events. I did not attend any of the events during the after hours and never noticed any large groups other than a few folks in matching tshirts.

I really would not be concerned about Gay Days and large groups. I had some group (cheerleaders) experiences that I found difficult so I do not find your question offensive.

You could get the groups itinerary by searching the web and going to a different park than their schedule.

Free free to PM or e-mail me as I have an address with the above information.

I have read things about not wearing red, I have no idea what this means. The biggest thing that I would do would be to avoid mk on sat. I have seen this mentioned alot. Sorry I don't know to much.

During Gay Days Red is the color worn by those that attend, sort of like DISers wear lime green.

Gaydays.com or something like that will have the meet dates and places. Avoid the MK on the day they meet there, because it will be very crowded. Other than that we didn't notice a crowd effect. Maybe there is one at PI, we didn't go there at all.

I certainly don't want to be at WDW while a particular group is there either...with that said, I think Gay Days would be the least of my worries relative to the Brazilian groups, Cheerleaders, etc. I know that during that week, they also visit the other parks(I'm speaking of Sea World, Universal, etc.). I recommend you head over to the Gay and Lesbian Forum on these boards and ask the questions you are concerned about. I love that forum. Nice people. Full of info. Lots of fun. I am sure they would have no problem with you asking their experiences on that week. Is it overcrowded? Do they come into the parks in large crowds(of course, hanging out in large crowds shouldn't be a problem either..no different to me than lots of families entering a queue at the same time)? Etc, etc.....

ETA: I second the motion to visit Gaydays.com

Our family was at WDW in 2000 on Gay Days week. We were unaware of the event but definitely noticed it when MK was so crowded on that saturday. I did not feel like those there for Gay Days were intimidating or trying to monopolize anything - it was just much more crowded than the other days that week. I think if you schedule around the MK for that day it shouldn't affect your trip much at all.

I have been at WDW during Gay Days and Pop Warner week, and have never noticed large groups at either event.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I've also been to MGM during the cheerleading weekends and found it overwhelming in some areas. Thanks again.....we are counting the days!

The kids don't know we are going yet. We told them we just can't afford it this year.:) Any ideas on how to spring it on them? DD10 and DS3

DH is so excited he might just bust!

:goofy: :goofy: :goofy:

We have friends that go almost every year at this time. They love it. She said she plans her park days one day behind the groups events, and never has a problem. She says the crowds stay really managable doing it this way. Gay Day is her favorite time to go to WDW.

Dh and I went once during gay days and we had a one day hopper that was leftover from a previous trip. We started in AK, then MGM, then we went to MK (on the Saturday). It was very busy...we went on BTMRR and it had a 2 hour wait and that was the only ride we went on because it was so busy. We ended up leaving and heading to Epcot to finish out the day (we were exhausted btw, lol). So, I would just say avoid MK on Saturday during Gay Days, the other parks weren't too busy at all:) But, I'd go again during that time and just avoid going to MK on Saturday.
