Don't Want To Offend Anyone....

You could very well be right, we thought about that. This was her 3rd visit in 14 months and the first one she didn't enjoy. I'm not sure if it was the Villas or just her age. And she definately hates loud noises!! When we went in September and stayed at BWV, we were going NUTS cause she was always trying to run off in direction or another. This time she wouldn't even run down the hallway lol ..... As I said in an earlier post (i think!!) I HATE THIS STAGE lol, but this too shall pass I HOPE ;)

Hmmm interesting thread.

Thanks for the warning, but I wouldn't panic if I had a kid around that age just yet. It seems like the weirdest and most unexpected things scare kids around that age and you just have to be prepared to deal with it (not saying that the original poster didn't, of course, just saying "don't be afraid of the WL").

Just as a contrast to the experience of the original poster, in March we stayed at the VWL while friends of ours stayed in the lodge. They have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and and both kids LOVED the lodge and the surrounding property. In fact, when quizzed about her favorite part of the trip, the 4 year old said "the hotel." I think her parents were a little surprised that the hotel rated above seeing mickey and the princess breakfast, but it also helped convince them to buy into DVC at the VWL.

On the other hand, we had a near meltdown on the safari ride when the 4 year old learned that there were lions there and there is no way her parents would take her to stay at the Animal Kingdom lodge until she is old enough to really understand and believe that there are no lions on that particular savannah (or grow out of her fear of them).

I agree with the poster who said it's a good idea to know what the theming is for a resort so that you know what to expect before you get there, but on the other hand sometimes you just don't know what your reaction will be (let alone the reaction of a little kid) until you get into the situation.

We are considering buying a very small add-on contract at VWL just so we can spend three or four nights there the beginning of December. In my opinion, Wilderness Lodge gets the award for being decorated the best at Christmas. I think the fireplaces and the dimmed lights, at Christmas anyway, give the resort a much cozier feeling. Last December we stayed at Coronado before buying into DVC but visited all the Disney properities to see the Xmas decorations and WL gets our vote.

What were those silly imagineers thinking when they left
that eyesore of a pine forest adjacent to and amongst the Wilderness Lodge and Villas?! And why in the world would they plan a Wilderness Lodge theme for the only natural lake (Bay Lake) on the property? Maybe we could start a petition to lose the woods in favor of a 24 hour strip mall. That way we could solve the romantic lighting problem as well as the nasty tree situation in one fell swoop.

Seriously Brittsmum, the peaceful and magnificent grounds of the Wilderness Lodge property obviously did not do anything for you guys. For our family with 2 daughters (ages 4 and 2) it was love at first "site".

We live IN the woods, and we're still staying at WL. There's nothing like DISNEY woods!!! Can't wait! It also gives me landscaping ideas that will look nice in OUR woods;)
