After reading what others are asking I'm really confused now. I have 4 day old park hopper passes with 1 plus that was purchased from Hotwire. I'm going to be there 4/28 - 5/7 spending only the first half in Disney, but would like the option of having another day to try to see sorin and the stunt show later in the week. From what I'm understanding is that my passes are worth more and since I don't care about the expiration because I know they will all get used, that maybe I may get an extra day with next to little cost?. Is any of this correct?

If you upgrade you will have to include the park hopping, plus pack and no expiration option in calculating the price of the new ticket because the old PH tickets had those options. So if you want to just add one day, you would have to get the 5 day MYW w/ park hopping, Magic Plus Pack and no expiration options. This would also increase your Plus options to 3 from 1.

Thanks Lisa, but I must be a little slow tonight. So by upgrading sounds like I'm getting quite a bit more, but how can I figure out how much more it is going to cost me?. I really don't want to spend much more, because I can live without the extra day. I just thought it may work to my advantage.

This has been a very common misconception since MYW started in January. It is not true when talking about unused tickets. Eeyore0062 posted the most accurate description of what the policy is that I've seen in http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=756376

kimstigger:
Take the ticket to any Guest Relations location at the theme parks or at DTD. They will scan the ticket and tell you what the value of it is towards a new one. If it is unused as I presume it to be, you will be able to upgrade it to any MYW ticket you want. And FWIW, you will lose that one plus visit no matter what ticket you upgrade to.

One thing that has not been consistently posted is what amount you will be credited for an old and unused 4-day Hotwire hopper ticket.

Some posts say that you will be credited with what you paid Hotwire ($209/adult) and others have said that you will be credited with either the Disney store price ($215) or the gate price of a 4-day hopper ($233). All of my $$ are based on 2004 and include tax, but this is just an example.

Sure would be nice for OP to know this $$ amount before getting to Disney. Am assuming that WDW's pretty clever about knowing what you really paid and from whom (and it's all coded in the swipe bar).

Would be a sweet deal, OP, if you got $233 because then you could buy a 5-day MYW hopper for only about $10 more.

Thank you everyone for your info. Looking at the myh prices I would cost me about $279 for an adult 5 day hopper +. I guess not that important for me to spend and extra $60.00 to get the extra day, and that's not including the cost to upgrade my 2 boys also. I guess when I bought the hotwire tickets it does seem that it was a better deal in my situation.

Consistency is not a hallmark of dealing with any Disney policy. :rolleyes2

You will be credited the price that comes up on the screen when the Guest Relations CM scans the ticket. You will not be credited the gate price. Using your prices as an example, does anyone really think that Disney would take a $24 loss per ticket as a matter of policy? And it would actually be over $30 since Disney sold that ticket to Hotwire at a wholesale price.

I believe that a 4 day one plus hopper is a promotional pass, not a standard pass. (A standard 4 day hopper plus has two plusses) Some promotional passes may not be traded at all. Best thing to do is have the pass scanned and find out the value, then take it back as-is, step out of line, and do some more figuring.

Standard passes that you purchased and received an advance purchase discount for are valued at gate price as of the date of purchase when used for a trade-up.

Although Disney may not be doing so intentionally, the procedure for trading up passes can easily give you the feeling of being flimflammed or bamboozled. It is common for the ticket agent to announce just one number, the number of additional dollars you need to pay, after you hand him several old passes and tell him what kind of new passes you would like. You think it is a good del, pull out your credit card, and pay. It is better if you did the number crunching in advance.

The 4 day PHP was a specialty ticket that was offered to ticket wholesalers but not sold directly to the public just as the 5 day PHP with 4 pluses was. It was indeed a single plus visit. There were no "standard" 4 day PHP's with 2 visits offered by Disney or anyone else.
