but I had NO idea you could bring food on an airplane!!! :scared1:

I honestly never even thought about it since they made me throw away my water bottle at security...figured no food/ drink allowed period, unless you buy from their kiosks or stores!

lol! :lmao:

So now that I know this, what is acceptable to bring on with you? My dh and I will have a redeye on our way to WDW in January and never thought about being hungry on the plane!

Help please!:worship:

you can bring anything that isn't a liquid or a gel unless it's individually labeled at 3oz or under and in your quart baggie. Including apples, bananas, sandwiches, chips, empty water bottles to fill on the other side of security.

Since I have small kids we can also bring sippy cups full of drinks for them. They have a sniffer thing that smells the drinks and deems them not poison or explosives.

omgosh such a GREAT idea!! Wow so I can take fruit too? Does this have to be packaged in a specific way, like in a big see thru gallon bag?

Does security even question you about taking empty water bottles through?

Thanks for all your information! :)

Moving to the Transportation Forum. Someone there probably has a link to the TSA rules regarding liquids in your carry on.

I would also add that while they are not prohibited, any food with a strong aroma should be avoided as a courtesy to your surrounding passengers. And nuts of any kind should be discouraged because you never know when someone near you or using the seat after you might be highly allergic.

Snacks on the plane are a must! We usually bring things like granola bars, fruit rollups, pretzels/popcorn - any non-perishables should be fine. I assume anything liquid/gel-like (like jello cups, applesauce, pudding cups) might get taken at security. But I haven't flown for over a year so I'm not sure what the rules are now.

Also if the airline you are flying doesn't serve nuts (which is a lot of the domestic ones now), it would be courteous not to bring nuts on either due to possible allergies of your fellow passengers.

True! well I'm definitely taking all the suggestions, and hopefully save some money by not buying from their restaurants!

I used our remaining dining credits at the end of our trip last month to get sandwiches from Sunshine Seasons in Epcot for the plane ride home, since we wouldn't be landing until after 9 pm. DH was thinking they wouldn't allow us to take the food on the plane & refused to carry it through security. In the bag was the side (potato salad) and desert (chocolate croissants)as well . I also had one of the kid's boxed meals. It was in a separate plastic WDW bag. There was no problem, except that the plastic container with the potato salad got destroyed because of all the other stuff I was carrying, and the sandwiches were squashed. Still tasted good! I had fruit snacks and cereal bars in our carryons on the flight there, and also had no problems. My advice would be to take food that is not easily destroyed (no cookies, chips, etc., unless you have a hardsided container), nothing that has a strong odor, and nothing that many people are allergic to (like peanuts). We took lots of lollypops home in our carryon from leftover snack credits, and were not questioned. In the end, the only issue we had was a Tide bleach stick in my purse.....

I usually take a couple of Tupperware containers with me when I travel. I hate wasting food and I've often brought unfinished meals (like chicken nuggets or dessert) back to my hotel room for midnight munching. Seems like it would have come in handy in case I had potato salad too! ;)

We had a connecting flight in Atlanta in August...and Heartsfield Airport must have a killer fried chicken place because I saw 6 people ( 2 were together) carrying on big bags of fried chicken...with huge drinks, salad...it was something. I was giggling a bit because until they could put ther trays down it was challenging for this one girl to try and eat her chicken, and she was wearing white linen slacks and well, they were not so white when she got off. Anyway, my friends mom carries her homemade lasagna on her flights from Pittsburgh to Chicago, desserts and nutbread all the time. I have brought pbj /crackers, but basically just buy a water or pop with a screw cap to have on the plane, but I bet there are some amazing items brought on by folks.

Years ago we learned the hard way to bring food on the plane. We had a 6 something am flight out of Bradley that got delayed because of snow. We were the only ones whose flight wasn't cancelled or delayed and felt very lucky until we sat on the plane for hours while they de-iced the wings and removed fuel from the tank so they could use the short runway :scared1:. We ended up having to stop in Norfolk Va to re-fuel and didn't get our "breakfast" until after 12 noon :scared1: I have never traveled without some kind of food since :)

If you do decide to buy something at the airport after you go through security, please do not take items from McDonalds onto the plane! If someone is feeling the least bit airsick, getting a whiff of someone else's McDonald's food just might... well... make everyone's trip less pleasant.

uh-oh...been there, done that! lol!:lmao:

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I sooo agree! And Burger King is the worst! Got on plane last trip, family came and sat down behind us with Burger King. I did feel a little bad that I blurted out to my kids, ew, the smell of Burger King is making me naseous - then realized I said it a bit too loud!

I usually fly out really, really early in the morning, so I just pick up a bagel and cream cheese at McD's. I also would find it offensive if someone brought something that had an odor onto a plane - there is just no where to go to get away from the smell.....

We almost always bring something with us. Often we pick up a sandwich at the airport, however. We fly mostly out of Chicago's Midway. Highly recommend Potbelly's for their sandwiches. Great, fresh, and not over-priced.

We also always bring food with us--unless it's a short flight during a time when we wouldn't be eating anyway. We bring fruit and cut-up veggies, which you can't get on the plane or often at the airport, either. I've also been known to bring salads on the plane. The trick here is to dress them ahead of time, since unless the dressing's in a 3-oz container in the 311 bag, you can't carry it on separately, however, you can put as much dressing as you want onto the salad, where, I guess, it's no longer considered a liquid.

Interesting that lasagna & potato salad were ok...I would think that they would be covered in the liquid ban because of the stuff inside...who knew!

Lasagna and potato salad are not liquids.

You can bring a sandwich with mustard through security, but you cannot bring a jar of mustard. Same difference.
