Dont Rent From DOLLAR!!!!!

Just curious, did the OP ever find out what the charge was for? I agree, that this probably shouldn't have been posted until the situation was investigated. No reason to decrease their business if this is something you did. However, if after investigating, this is an authorized charge then definitely post away. Curious as to what the charge was for though.

First, you can require them to send you the documentation. I did that when the charged me for a dent repair. However, unless you proof disputing their documentation, you're going to have to eat the charge if you can't negotiate it away. You've already knocked off all but $1 as it is.

Any rental company can charge you later for fees they incur as a result of your rental. I agree that ten weeks can seem long, but given processing times (toll authority getting info to Dollar, Dollar tracking it to your rental, Dollar charging you, you getting your statement), it's not out of the realm of legitimacy.

If Dollar is waving the $25 service charge (most companies will charge and administrative fee to collect), I would just pay the $ unless you can prove you weren't on the toll road that day or that you paid the toll. Without actual proof, it just becomes your word against theirs, and they claim to have the documentation backing up their position.

The likelihood of Dollar intentionally defrauding you is pretty slim, but my own experience of them is that they will definitely run charges through for anything out of the ordinary. If they wanted to pile on fraudulent charges, they would be pretty stupid to do it with state records (toll agency), which would get them in trouble with the state for using their information for fraudulent purposes.

Dollar's not a fly-by-night agency . . .

I just did mapquest and it looks like they have you going on the north side of the airport on 528 which I am guessing is part of airport road. Dh drove and like I said we have been back and forth to canaveral several times, always stopping at the tolls and paying and never had a problem. In fact we are constantly reading all the signs to make sure we are on the right path.so I really doubt that we missed a toll. So what are you to think? Did we make a mistake? who knows but with so many complaints of charges from all rental agencies I'm thinking maybe a town car or ME wouldnt be a bad option to consider.

Thanks again to all!!!

Seems like you should be THANKING Dollar. They seem to be acting quite nice by tropping the $25. My guess is you threw in $1 in coins (or possibly missed a coin), and the machine said you paid less. You drove through thinking you completely paid and hence, the ticket.

Totally agree.

If anything, you'll to take it up with Florida transportation - they are the ones that issued the toll.

I did thank lisa from dollar and was not anything but nice to her.

But it was a hassle.

And I posted on the boards last night to see if anyone else had a similar issue with this kind of situation, as well as some support and helpful thoughts as to what to do.I was upset. Thanks to all.

DH is going to take it from here with the Florida dept of transportation.

The price of car rentals in Orlando has pretty much pushed us into the Disney transportation category. We can't get a car for length of stay for our upcoming trip for less than $200. Given our travel needs, the delivery fee from GardenGrocer.com and a couple of taxis from resort to resort for the occasional dining reservation won't come close to that.

At any rate, I wouldn't wipe out the whole rental care industry based on one experience with Dollar. It's possible to have a bad experience with any agency, but my experience are that Hertz, National, and Avis are "more forgiving" of an inexpensive transgression (tank not quite full, or a skipped Toll in the case of National) or "more generous" with the occasional perk or two.

Maybe this thread should read "I won't rent from Dollar again" because honestly I have also rented from Dollar several times and nothing in this thread would keep me from renting there again. Just a thought.
Agree wholeheartedly. This thread would not stop me from renting from Dollar again. What would is that they assigned me a car last time (instead of letting me choose my own), plus I'm an Emerald Club member and just prefer National and Alamo to other rental agencies.

Why in the world would you accuse a company of fraud before investigating the situation first? Basically you are slandering Dollar rent a car.

That is COMPLETELY UNTRUE!!

Slander is spoken. In print it's libel. :lmao:
