On may 15th, 2007 don't buy gas because if we get loads of people all over the U.S to not pump gas, the oil companies will lose loads of cash and will have to lower prices. This happened in 1997 where a lot of people all over the U.S. who did this and the oil company lost billions and the gas price's went down 30 cents overnight! So please pass this on to parent's and friend's who drive! thanks!

Well, personally I don't think we'd want the oil companies to lose money. Not yet, we still need oil to function.

I don't quite understand, how would they lose money? and is it even possible to get EVERYONE to NOT pump gas?

I like that idea, and my brother was talking about that today, but the bottom line is the oil companies don't care, and people are going to buy gas any way.

Too bad it won't do anything at all. The best thing to do would to boycott a certain gas station, for example Exxon Mobil. Then they would lose business for a long period of time and have to lower gas prices. Doing this for 1 day will not do anything at all.

And this "boycott" would only hurt the gas station owners, not the oil companies. So this incredibly misguided and mean-spirited "boycott" not only misses its intended mark, but hurts the little guy in the process. :sad2:

Boycott the "boycott" -- help your local gas station owners by being sure to fill-up on May 15.

Wow everyone completely missed the original intentions of the OP. How do you know that this wouldn't do anything if you do not try? Besides even if it didn't work what is going to happen? nothing. With gas at almost 3 dollars a gallon it is worth a shot

I think it sounds like a good idea. People are saying that by this summer in New Hampshire gas prices could reach $4 a gallon:eek:

It is expected that it will four dollars and up everywhere

The point is that it would do something -- something bad, to people who aren't the ones that the boycott is claiming these actions would hurt! :headache:

You guys must not realize that this wouldn't hurt the oil companies at all, seeing as how the gas is usually already delivered to the separate stations. So, like someone already said, you'd be killing gas station owners. The only way to hurt the oil companies is for the stations to stop ordering gasoline; but since they're mostly franchises that probably ain't gonna happen.

Actually, even then, it still wouldn't hurt the oil companies. If the stations stop ordering gasoline, then scarcity would drive up apparent demand, which would drive up per gallon prices. That would help the oil companies, not hurt them, as their marginal profit would increase.

There is only one way to "hurt" the oil companies: Use less fuel, every single day.

all ask is just try. i'm just doing it for my friends that asked me to do it. just please try it and if it dosen't work it dosen't work. i mean it won't really hurt just to try it once. i'm just trying to help. i don't want my parent's paying $4 for a gallon of gas. Just please pass it on to everybody u know. thanks!

Sure it could, when you're stranded on the side of the road on a hot day :|.

Well, to lighten the mood: Atleast cars don't run on milk, because think about the price of a gallon of milk.

just try. i don't think somebody is gonna be stranded on that day. take an alternative ride a bike, take a walk, or even take a bus instead.

No please don't try. Please have some compassion for the people who are going at actually get hurt, the local gas station owners. Think before you act. You wouldn't spray bug killer at a child just to kill the bug on the child -- don't boycott fueling stations because you're upset with oil companies.

it is just for one day. and plus they will get their business back the next day. we are just trying to lower the prices a little. if they lower the gas prices it would help a lot of families with money problems because i know a lot of people who work so hard and then when their tank goes out. they have to fill it again knowing that they could have bought food for their family then spenind loads to fill a couple of gallons of gas in a tank. you can only get like 7 gallons of gas for 20 dollars here. that's way too much.
