Is there anything that you make sure you always take with you to OKW to make your stay is more enjoyable/comfortable? I am getting ready for my first stay in a couple of weeks and want to make sure I am well prepared. This visit will be a short stay in a Studio.

One thing I take with me no matter where I am staying is a towel that is larger than a standard sized towel but smaller than a bath sheet. It wraps around my full-figure comfortably while I do hair and make-up, etc. I make sure it is a bright color so that housekeeping doesn't take off with it by accident. I realize no housekeeping at OKW to worry about this time.

Anybody have other suggestions.

For a studio stay I always pack a medium sized sharp knife (if you plan to eat in your room). The studios only supply plastic utensils and paper plates. If flying, be sure the knife is in checked luggage and not your carry-on.

Consider coffee, some round 4" filters, breakfast bars, a cork screw (should you decide to purchase a bottle of wine from the General Store) or some microwave popcorn. You will have a small refrig, a microwave, sink, etc.

I always bring extra coffee filters, a nightlight for each bathroom, fitted sheets and bathroom deodorizing spray. And a small bag of dryer sheets are easy to stuff in a baggie.

We are thinking of bringing extra coat hangers. There never seems to be enough there. Also we are bringing Tide soap tablets for laundry. :)

I bet some of you even handy dandy lists that you use. Please share.

If you have a kitchen. The pots and pans that DVC provides really are pretty basic.

Beyond that we like to bring a selection of spices.

Since you are staying in a studio, you will not have full kitchen facilities or laundry, so there is not much to bring for that. We actually do not bring much for a larger unit either. The only other thing you need is a few breakfast groceries.

You can get all the hangers you want. Ususally
when I check in I tell the CM to please ask
housekeeping to bring 10-12 extra's to the room
By the time I get there, the hangers are there too. Anita.

They're not always easy to find, but the laundry sheets that have both detergent and fabric softener in them are a real godsend - especially if you plan to stay for more than a few days. This may sound weird, but the other things we always bring are several large zip-lock bags and a small, cheap roll of aluminum foil. We always send out for pizza the 1st night (from outside, not Olivia's) and the foil really comes in handy!

We are from the same area. :) And just where do you find the sheets that have laundry detergent and softener all in one? I have looked at Kroger, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Lowes and no luck. Have you found them here in Raleigh?

May sound strange as DD is 8-1/2, but I never travel anywhere without diaper wipes. I even go so far as to keep a small ziplock of them in my pocket at all times.

Has anyone ever tried bringing a GEORGE FORMAN GRILLE? There is only me, DH & DD (who is 3), studio is plenty big for us but I thought I might bring the grille for next trip. Would be great for grille cheese etc. Any thoughts?

When you wish upon a star...DVC will take you far...anything your heart desires....will come your way

Here's a cool tip I learned from, of all people, my mother, during our trip in September. I had a Heineken but no bottle opener was supplied in the studio (at BWV) so Mom demonstrated the door jam trick. Just pop the top in where the bolt for the door goes (you have to open the door) and pop off the top! But you might want to include a bottle opener anyway :D

First of all, Sorcerer - phew - when I am on vacation, no bottle opener could be considered a crisis!!!! Glad to hear you figured it out!

For me - I agree with many:
Foil, bath towel, non stick pan....

I just found these really neat fizzy type tablets at Crabtree and Evelyn - you put them in the whirpool and you don't get bubbled out - you get fizzied!!! really neat!

11 more days!

I wish we had brought a sharp knife, a couple of ZipLoc containers (the disposable ones), and, of course, a can opener. We made do with paper plates, but I prefer to eat from plastic instead of plates, so a couple of those might have come in handy, as would a couple of actual knives, forks, and spoons (it's easier to stab food with those than with plastic - I'm always breaking a fork tine...). You can always get sugar, salt, and pepper at the restaurants, so that's not a biggie.

The George Foreman grill sounds like a great idea - the small one for convenience sake in packing. Even a small hotplate is better than nothing (are they allowed?).

We really couldn't cook a decent dinner in the studio, but we had some nice scrambled eggs in the microwave (although the paper plates are a little icky to cook with, hence the ZipLoc containers).

I'm sure I'll think of something else later...

Hugs!

A while back there was a post on the rewards board for a free picnic backback for test driving a pathfinder. (there may still be a link if you search or at funtasia).
Well, the picnic back[ack is great. It has place settings for 4 including a sharp knife and glasses. The other side has an insulated area for keeping stuff cool. When we go next time, (and we hope to buy in then), we will bring this. I don't really care for plastic utencils so the palce settings will be great!

Have a great trip!

Hi rwethereyet!
Sorry for the delay in responding- I just read your post. The brand I have is called Xclaim and I remember buying them at Winn-Dixie about a year ago. (It's a big box of 50sheets and I save them for vacation only) I checked the box and the manufacturer is New Lund Laboratories (never heard of them!) and they are located right in Greensboro,NC. Their phone# is 1-888-639-5863 and their email is www.newlundlabs.com. Good luck and let me know what you find out!
Regards, jeanneg

in this state we are taxed for food - so it is cheaper to wait and buy food in Fl, that say i still take extra paper plates, waffle mix (really pancake), waffle iron, ceral, and snacks. I buy there sofa drinks, milk, fresh veg & fruits, oranges at the shops along US27, some things that cook well in a microwave (read the label), luncheon meat & bread. the freezer is really small, so don't buy too many frozen dinners (or bring a freezer, ice is located next to the quiet pool, or the bus stop if you are not close to a quiet pool). All the glasses are glass, even the mug, so I also bring my plastic mug from the last trip.

The studios have dishwashing detergent, place settings for four, paper goods for four, paper towels, start-up coffee and tea, iron & ironing board, hairdryer (new!), bath soap, small shampoo, tissues, vacuum, and porta-crib. You might want to take your favorite coffee or tea to brew (don't forget the paper liners). The plastic knives are pretty sharp... we've been able to cut everything from apples to pizza with them. We usually take old washcloths that we can use and then throw away since you only get clean towels and washcloths twice a week. Bed linens are supplied, so we've never taken our own sheets. (You'll even find extra clean sheets on the porta-crib.)

We always take soft drinks, orange juice drink boxes, bottled water, breakfast foods, and snacks. We also travel with a small 2-slice toaster for DH who can't live without toast!

Welcome to the DVC and have a wonderful time!
