Well, my worst fear of traveling solo finally happened (hey, it took about 15 solo trips, so I guess I'm fortunate)-I got sick on a solo trip. Here I was, making trips to visit Auntie Loo every few minutes trying to get someone to bring me Immodium. First, call the front desk-I should have realized that calls go to some central center, not REALLY the front desk. Of course, I had to call twice-the first time I was on hold too long, must visit Auntie Loo again. Once they figured out where I was, they said they'd transfer me to the BC Marketplace, but I got a wrong number and "leave a message", which I did, no response. After another visit to Auntie Loo then another unsuccesful attempt at calling the BC Marketplace, I did the most adult thing I could think of-I stood out in the hall and cried. That's when I realized my mistake-I'd asked for a room in a quiet area, which meant I was out in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately eventually mousekeeping came along, the mousekeeper spoke enough English to get on the phone and call someone and get action. About 15 minutes later I got my Immodium, but I wasn't happy about eating saltine crackers and dry toast with all that great food at WDW. However, I did learn one great thing-the new Mexican counter serve in Epcot has a yummy apple sode (kind of like the Manzanita in Club Cool) that's delicious for yucky tummys.

I am so sorry to hear of that experience. I am the person that brings a med for every occasion with me , it comes from traveling for work so often that I finally learned to be prepared. I am glad you finally found someone who could assist you with your dilemma.
My son will be happy to know of the apple soda at the Mexican counter, that is the one thing he misses from his trips to mexico and always has to go to Club Cool to get his fix.
Next time you decide on a solo visit to "the world" add Immodium , Pepto, Tums, along with headache remedies to the list, and if you do not already have it on the list bandaids, neosporin, cortisone cream for any itchy bites, and any other over the counter med you may use at home.... Pay attention when you are in WalMart and Sams or Costcos as well as your local grocery chain as they always have product demonstrations going on and you can get samples of many of these products to throw in your suitcase that way.

I hope your next visit is uneventful.

So sorry you were sick - not at all fun! :sad1:  I have never had to keep on visiting Auntie Loo during a solo trip but did get a vicious migrane once and didn't like it one bit. Glad you were able to get the help you needed eventually - thank goodness for the mousekeeper. Hugs- and hope your future trips are less exciting in the sick department.

so sorry about the situation.... just like ACM I am like a walking drugstore... so far I have not had the need to use the meds I bring with me... but had helped fellow solo diser when they know where to find me... even tide and bounce I carry...

favorite line at a laundry room... "Hey do you want me to Tide you over and maybe a Bounce later?" LOL I hate seeing people pay the $2 for a laundry soap and a single softener...

Wow. I'm really sorry to hear you had to go through all of that just to get some Immodium. I can only hope that the rest of your trip went better after that little episode.

I had a little similar episode happen to me though. During my solo trip, I had a ticket to MNSSHP. Really eager to do it and psyched up to see the various characters out at night. But a light shower happened earlier in the day (and by light, I mean God dumped a barrel of water on the resort) which brought humidity to the heat. I don't do costumes anymore, so I tried to fit in with the dark, spooky mood for Halloween (All-black). All that started to wear me down and I decided to head back for my hotel room. Good decision too, because on my way back I was experiencing some rather severe stomach cramps. They were so strong that I was afraid I was going to pass out. Fortunately, I made it back to take some meds I brought with me (yup, Immodium), and was able to rest for the night. Really sad I missed the Halloween party, but the rest of the trip went fine for me. And I was able to get a photo op with my favorite villain, Maleficent.

Ugh ... you poor thing :guilty: I'm sorry you had to deal with that when you were on vacation.

I hope you got better fast and were able to enjoy the rest of your vacation!

I would think plenty of visitors get "done in" by tummy troubles, possibly some of it related to theme park food and exhaustion :) In this kind of scenario, be sure to take of dehydration as well.

the nurse station at the parks would be who I would call

that say also kept a bunch of med - they have their own case3.

The irony is that I do bring a "medication bag" with bandaids, cortisone cream, neosporin, headache stuff, etc. I even being antibiotics (one of the very few advantages of living near Mexico-the ability to get antibiotics OTC). I used to have Immodium in my kit, but a couple years ago I said "I've never needed this stuff" so out it went! Not the best decision I ever made.
Spiceycat, the nurses' stations in the parks are so nice, aren't they? I've had the "pleasure" of visiting several of them (not DHS-yet) and they're always very nice.

what happening to your husband? though he went with you and just played golf.

hope you never have to go though that again.

I check all the dates of the med. (no don't want to heard about that one)

know where all the Walgreens are that are close to WDW.

DH did go with me, but only for part of the trip. He left Wednesday (had to go back to work) and I got sick on Friday. And shockingly, he didn't even bring his golf clubs, let alone play golf. It would have helped so much if he'd still been there.

Oh the things I'm learning while lurking around this thread (prepping for my first solo trip) - another tip for my files! so sorry that you were sick on vacation :scared1:

One related tip I learned the hard way is that it's extra-important when you're solo to bring some vital medication to the park with you. I remember years ago getting a migraine headache and I had my medication....at the hotel!
