I have never used nor seen a Disney Dollar before. So, can someone explain how that currency system works at Disney? I have heard that I can get it at any Disney Stores. Does $1 Disney = $1 US? Do Disney Club members get 10% by buying the DD??????

I confess it is a entry level stupid question, but I just cannot find any information on that. So, I post a message here for help!

thanks. :p

Jean - no questions are stupid here at DIS Info Station. Disney Dollars are $ for $. You can purchase them at the Disney Store but the DC discount does not apply.

You WOULD, however, get your DC discount when making a qualifying purchase which you pay for with Disney Dollars... :)
(so, if you got a discount ON the Disney$$$ and then on the purchase that you pay for them with, THAT would be a double discount, and we're talking Disney here...NO double discounts! :) :D :D )

Thanks for the great pics! I'm a tinkerbell collector, so have to get that ten dollar bill.
I always save those $1 from the stroller return, so I must have $5-10 Disney bucks floating around.

How many do YOU have? And how much do you think Disney makes on unused dollars?

There's no advantage to Disney Dollars. They are just like plain old money, $ for $ at WDW. But they're FUN!

Ah, but there is an advantage for many...:)
You can charge them at the Disney Store, and spend them at WDW just like cash...at places that don't take credit cards! :) (popcorn, concessions at shows, etc)

THAT can be a BIG advantage for many of us!!! :D :D :D

It is much like "Geoffrey money". It is fun money. I used to pay my boys in Disney dollars every time they cleaned their room, before our vacations.

They are collectibles too! I have some from the 25th anniversary and the opening of DC.

The one thing I tell people is that you don't need to bring back the unused dollars. The DS won't exchange Disney money unless you show your sales receipt, but that is a no brainer. Merely break your bills at the parks before you come back! Like I do with my unused AMEX traveler cheques, I buy cheap knick knacks here and there like soda, a candy bar, etc., until I have broken all my bills.

I was told years back by the Disneyland Ticketbooth CM that if I buy Disney Dollars with Credit Card, they will charge the "purchase" as cash advance. Did they policy change or it is a special deal only at Disney store? If I can buy Disney Dollars at the store and charge it on my credit, I will be a very happy camper (points, points, and more points!). And I only live 1 mile away from the mall with Disney store.

absolutely. We do this every weekend. I use Amex, and by the time my nephew is old enough to go to WDW,we'll have enough points to pay the air for 10 people ..... and at the current rate of acquisition...we may own the Grand Floridian by then too!

They cannot be bought in Canada so I have never used them....

Boy would that ever be great since our exchange rate is really horrid....:p

Don't laugh, but I have managed to rack up over 200,000 membership miles (Amex), 30,000 delta skymiles, 40,000 starwood, 30,000 United airlines, using my credit cards (and I don't own a business, nor do I travel for business all that much). It's mostly personal spending, putting everything possible on the credit cards.

I currently have over 300,000 UA miles, 188,000 delta miles, 80,000 starwood points, 187,000 Hilton Honors, 45,000 Amex miles (to add to my delta miles), and 48,000 Marriott points. I could do a very nice vacation with all I have saved in these points, but of course cash is better.

One idea that I have posted on this board, was for people saving their coins, instead of putting it into a savings account, it might be worth it to buy US savings bond (using your point earning credit cards:D ).

Take care.
