Done the wrong thing why did i do it....

We drove past a new housing estate being built, and i had the bright idea of having a look in the showroom

Now i have been bitten by the showroom bug.

To the fact we had our house valued.

We have looked at several places and the prices are ££££££££ with the hidden extras.

Anyone else have the bug at looking at showhouses

We often drive round all the local show houses. It makes a nice Sunday afternoon outing if your bored

DD loves them as long as it has a pink bed, she even came home last weekend and started to pack

She handed over 40p to the sale lady, bless her no concept of money

We love new houses and have bought a few brand new ones. The one we are currently living in did not have a show house for our house type so we had to drive to another town and knock on the door of a stranger (who had the same type of house) to ask them to look round. They were really kind and let us look round their house which we really liked so bought the one here.

Last year we went to Spain and enjoyed looking round the show houses there and we are now waiting for our new holiday home to be built.

Of course we were bitten by the show flats at DVC too.

I think we need to keep away from any new show houses!!

I stopped doing this years ago because I always came home feeling dissatisfied. A few weeks back we ended up looking at the super-dooper top-end show home at a new development near us because we're looking to move my Mum closer. All those old feelings came rushing back and I immediately started trying to work out how we could afford to do it and what we could sacrifice. Luckily, it wore off after a few days and I realised that it isn't really any better than what we've got now.

I just don't get the buzz from spending the day going round show homes.

When we first got together ~ We both feel in love with the house that we are in now. It is huge, more a family home than a couple home really. Since we've been here, the whole place has been renovated from top to bottom. We've added a conservatory, 2 on-suite bathrooms, extended the kitchen, added a sunken bath, floored the loft and the list continues.

As the house is a good number of years old, it has much larger rooms than the newer houses now have. We've spent a fortune on lighting accessories, furniture and clothing accessories. We love it and I'm sure if we ever find a house that meets our needs in a newer development we would move on. Can't see it happening anytime soon though.

5 years ago we almost moved into a new house. Could have bought it for £160,000 but would have taken all our spare cash, we are used to going abroad around 8 weeks a year, buying this would have meant only 2 weeks a year. So decided to stick with our small 3 bed detached instead of 5 beds, 3 stables and half acre land.
The same house just came up for sale 3 weeks ago, £495,000

I just keep thinking I would have missed out on all those Disney cruises, trips to Disneyland CA. etc etc. over the past 5 years. Money isn't everything.

being an estate agent cured me of new-home lust! I dislike them now, no room for your money, and they all look the same (unless you're spending millions!) no, I'll have my 150 year old cottage any day.

I have to agree here I prefer older houses, the new builds dont seem to have that homely feel nor the space as older builds.

Im a sucker for new homes too!

Our first house was a new build and we spent every weekend for nearly a year visiting every show home in a 50 mile radius LOL!

We sold that house last year and needed to find something big and on budget - not easy when you are on the fringes of London (DH needs to be near a mainline station and ours is only 25 mins to his office).

I decided I ought to try and surpress my love for new builds and look at some older properties.

It didnt work. I couldnt get excited about any of them. Really old places gave me the creeps and WHY people rave about "Victorian" features is beyond me! Pass me the sledgehammer..... The 70s built places were just horrid - aesthetically hideous and all with strange smells!

In the end we found a house that was once a show home we had looked at nearly 8 years previously! The owners had extended it plus had a garage conversion. Even better we got it at a bargain price and its just what we need! Modern, big and no creepy staircases, spooky fireplaces or freestanding baths with claw feet (my pet hate!! ewwwww).

Still, its good we dont all want the same in a house isnt it!

Our only sacrifice has been a large garden. With the extension added to the back of ours, the garden isnt that big anymore, and Id love to have a huge lawn for the kids to play on.

Were in the process of buying a new build flat in Leeds. We looked at a few developments and several 'second hand' houses in our price range and the 1 bed new build flat with 1 parking space won out over all the 2/3 bed terraced/Semi's with garden & drive as I just do not have the energy to make one of them my own. We renovated our current house from top to bottom and it's perfect for us but due to location we were only ever living in Goole until we could afford to move closer to work and now we can.

I either like a house or I dont, new or not and I didnt see anything else I wanted. Having said that I do like things new & modern on the inside.

I can sympathise with the car thing Nat, that's my weakness too! but I will stick (with gritted teeth) to my ever so sensible, cheap to insure, reasonable to run Vauxhall Zafira.

ive looked at the zafiras but the lack of boot space puts me off they are cheaper though
