Donating Furs

Has anyone ever donated old furs to the National Humane Society?

I have my mother's old furs and I myself could never wear them but I have held onto them because they meant SO much to my mother. I can remember the day my father gave her a mink jacket, it was the happiest I ever saw her and she wore it many many times ...

I am ready to find a good way to get rid of them and I've read that the Humane Society uses them for people who are caring for orphan animals ...

Has anyone ever donated old furs? Are there other options? I don't want to sell them because I am no longer in favor of people wearing fur ....

When my Grandmother passed the family inherited the furs. We didn't know what to do with them so they sat around for years. My SIL ended up making stuffed teddy bears for all of us with the coats. So now we have some cute bears and we are reminded of our Grandmother whenever we see them. I keep mine displayed on my hutch, well before I moved. He still needs to be unpacked.

I don't know if the furs themselves bother you or not but if they don't there are businesses that make handmade teddy bears from old fur coats. I saw one and the woman who hand made the coat used the embroidered name part as the sole of one of the teddy bears feet as a remembrance. It was beautiful and something to hug when she missed her Mom.
