Donald's Safari Breakfast..

When we were there they had the big 5. Of course Donald, his girl Daisy, Mickey, Minnie and Goofy. They were all dressed in safari gear.

If we had reservations for the earliest time slot and finshed eating by lets say 8:50 am, could you go get in line for the Safari before rope drop?

My best friend and I ate there on 9/3 for an 8:20 ADR a few weeks ago, we were celebrating our 30th birthdays with a girls weekend. We didn't feel weird at all about not having kids with us and our interaction with the characters was great. Donald was outside for pictures, inside we saw Mickey, Goofy, and Daisy. The jungle juice is awesome - our waitress asked us if we knew there wasn't any rum in it, we were drinking it so quickly!

The food was great, much better than I expected. I loved all the quiches (there were 4 or 5 that day to choose from) and I never made it to the "dessert" table although those chocolate croissants looked so good. I was just too full from the rest of the food and we wanted to get on the rides right away. My only complaint was that the photographer wasn't a photopass photographer, if you wanted the picture, you had to buy it in a package that was $30 or something along those lines... so we said no thanks. Oh well.

We have an ADR for our first full day at WDW-

We have one guy who is "celebrating" his 28th birthday...me and his GF (we're all roommates) are making him celebrate... it's only 5 days after his actual birthday. The Girlfriend will be 31 and I'll be the baby of the group at 27 years and 364 days old (My birthday is the next day ).

We have no kids and we excited to go! I've been to Tusker House for dinner a few months after it opened with my mom and we *LOVED* it! It was such a hidden gem to us!

I think you'll be fine without kids

You'll have fun no matter what! And also, Thusker House is the only place on property that we tried that I noticed has good coffee.

We were there last year and Donald came to our table. Is this a new change for this year?

I have eaten there many times when Donald came to the table, but this year (I was there in Mar and May of 2010) he was standing outside the doors with a fastpass photographer. He does not go around to the tables anymore.

Not sure if they kept it that way after May, but it was that way in both March and May.

I already mentioned this above - it started like this in March, and it continues to be this way. You may purchase a photo package, like at 1900 Park Fare and other restaurants, or, you can have a CM take a photo with your own camera.

Your time might interfere a little bit with park time, but not too bad. We've had quite a few reservations at Donald's and it's pretty much a guarantee you'll have an hour in the restraunt eating and seeing the characters. If you don't care about seeing the characters, then I suppose you could eat and run and be out in less than an hour.

As far as being in your 20's and going without kids...my wife and I did it (not at Donald's but another character meal) in our 20's and my parents in their low 50's do it all the time. There are plenty of people who do it...

They have a rope that keeps guests from getting to the actual safari ride before the park opens. But you can wait at the rope and they do drop it a few minutes before the rest of the crowd arrives. In Dec. we were waiting at the rope after our breakfast and we heard some noise. We turned around and the main rope was coming over the bridge with the masses! They did drop our rope before the rest got there and we were on the first truck of the day.

We were there recently. My husband, my sister, my brother in law, and I. We are in our thirties without children and we loved it. The charecters were really fun and the food was really good. Some unique breakfast items too.

if your reservation is for 8am== will you be done by 8:50?? I doubt it unless the characters are not important.

What you could do-- is at 9am have one person in your party go to the safari and grab FPs and meet up there when everyone is done.
That way you are not stressing about being somewhere else instead of enjoying the moment.

You don't need to be a kid to go to a character meal. As long as you are willing to play along the characters are alot of fun. That being said, and I know I am in the minority here, that particular meal has to be the worst I have ever had in Disney. We had one of the first seatings of the morning. They didn't even have the food out. The CM apologized and said that several people did not show up for work that monrning but that didn't help any. By the time the food came out it was cold. The took drink orders right away. We were halfway through our meal by the time we got any juice and we were finishing when the coffee finally arrived. Character interaction was minimal at best. Now I am assuming that things have improved since we went. We have not wanted to go there again and have gone to Disney quite a few times in the past ten years. Now one of my favorite breakfast buffets is Ohana at the poly. That used to be Mickey and the gang in Hawiian shirts, but I think it is Lilo & Stich now. We done breakfast in the villa the last few trips. We have found over the years that a really good breakfast in the am sets you up with alot of enery for the parks and fuels you for a good part of the day. Something that is really needed when at the parks. They can be exhausting for anyone.

Sorry about your bad experience. When was the last time you dined there? The old Donald's breakfast at Restaurantsaurus was horrible, but it has much improved since it moved to Tusker House a few years ago.

It's funny you say that you love 'Ohana, we think it is the worst buffet meal on property. Been there 3x, and it's the same subpar service, horrible food, chaos to get checked in, and horribly long waits to meet characters. We've done all character meals so many times I can't even count, and it is honestly, the worst, IMHO!

Thanks chocovrdmicears. That helps alot. I think we'll try to get reservations as early as we can.

DH and I ate at Tusker House on our last trip (2 years ago) and really enjoyed it. The food was yummy, the room we were in was not too noisy, and we were able to get an early reservation since it wasn't as popular yet. We keep checking to see if we can get a reservation there again but no luck so far. We enjoyed this character breakfast more than Crystal Palace where we ate the year before.

I hope I'm not repeating things that have already been said since I haven't read everyone's responses, but here's my take on DSB.

The food is very good. Also there are some different choices that weren't available at some of the other character breakfast buffets like the ham and the juice.

It is really crowded and noisy. It is so crowded that there isn't even a lot of space for good pictures with characters.

I do not like that Donald does not visit the tables. I'm not a fan of the picture taking before the meal and then the sales pitch that comes later.

So we liked DSB, but would prefer Crystal Palace or even Akershus for a character breakfast meal in the parks.
