Or at least that's what I was told the last time I got carryout from my local Domino's. I believe it was the owner or manager who noticed my order had anchovies and he said that they were discontinuing them in a few days. Something about only being able to order ingredients directly from Domino's (and not through other suppliers) where they were having difficulties ordering more. Also that they were told that Domino's intended on eliminating anchovies altogether but in the meantime they couldn't get any more even though they hadn't been discontinued yet.

I remember hearing about a list of all locations that still had anchovies, but all I can see from the link here is locations in Michigan.

I ❤️ anchovies! Seems like a lot of pizza places don’t have them. We have one pizza place in a nearby town that has been in business over 50 years. When the original owner ran it the pizza was fantastic. I would sometimes order a small pizza with just double anchovies. The owner passed away, the son wasn’t interested in running it but the grandson took over. Pizza was not the same. We figured he started using cheaper ingredients. Then Covid hit so of course they shut down the dining rooms (3). They went to take out only. Even though every other restaurant around opened back up long ago, the pizza place did not. He must make enough money from take out to be happy. We prefer to eat our pizza hot and fresh from the oven So we no longer go there. Oh, he makes stickers on the side to sell. I’m sure his grandfather wouldn’t be happy with him.

I never order them, so I won't miss them...but my sympathies to those who will.

I haven't had anchovies in a long time, are they a thing you can add after the fact or is it like mushrooms where if they don't go in the mix before the oven it's very different. Can't sprinkle on mushrooms after the fact, then it's like a steak to me an they make a mess.

Never knew Dominos had them. Next thing you know they are going to cut fresh grated truffles, caviar, and foie gras toppings.

They typically go on before going in the oven. Mostly I seen them laid out directly, but a few places where they've been chopped and then spread out.

I do go to a few places with slices where anchovies are placed on parbaked slices. The cheese is already baked so the anchovies don't exactly sink in much. But neither do most other toppings.

I've seen a few things like sprinkling uncooked parsley or pickled peppers when it's out of the oven. And some styles maybe it's a spiral sauce deposited on the top.

I worked at a Domino's for two years and never knew they had anchovies. I ran a Papa John's and while every store had a case of anchovies in the cooler, they usually only sold one or two pizzas with anchovies in a year. Then you had to throw out that box and order another one. Each box had 24 tins and each tin had enough anchovies for 4 large pizzas. I think they are a very regional topping.
