Dolphins, Rhinos, and Bed Bugs, Oh My!!! 5/19-6/2

I am so glad you got feedback on your letters! We experienced a rather brave CM on our trip, and I wish I had thought to send a letter of appreciation! I was in a foul mood, exhausted, coming out of a lost pregnancy (with hormones still wild), and had managed to erase my room key! I got to the front desk, on the verge of tears and the CM kept ribbing me! As my family tells me, I have a very scary face when I am upset. That CM just took it in stride (and his life with it)...and within minutes he had me laughing, got my key fixed and life was good! Too bad I didn't get his name!

I am really enjoying your trip report! Can't wait to hear more!!

I'm only 1/2 way through, but wanted to let you know I'm really enjoying your report. Wow, two whole weeks. That's a dream come true. And your mom sounds great. Thanks for sharing!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing! I'm really sorry about what happened at AP! That is horrible! I have had my head bitten off by a monorail guy at CR...it made me cry too! :confused3 I want to know about the black mold AKA bed bugs too! We are leaving in two days and I want to know what to look for when we get to our room! I am really enjoying your report! :goodvibes

I've only read your first few installments, but I am LOVE LOVE LOVIN it...can't wait to see what happens next!!!

Thank you again for all of your replies :goodvibes It's wonderful to know so many people are enjoying my reports!!! For Sazzo's Mommy - the official determination was no bed bugs in case I don't get to the end before you leave for your trip. But I would recommend an immediate room change if you see black stuff, just in case...

We awoke early, yet again. I think this was the first day we actually got a Mickey and Stitch wake-up call :thumbsup2 My mom was very excited by this, especially when I told her that the second voice was Stitch. We had breakfast at the Mara and again lamented the food court at POR. Then we headed to AK and the Backstage Safari tour. On the bus on the way over I looked at my right leg and noticed that it had acquired the same number of bites as my left leg. But I didn't have the time to deal with it then...

I'd been on this tour 3 times. The first time I had Paul. Paul is great, he is a retired teacher, and has an awesome sense of humour. The second time our guide was okay, but not quite as good. I think this time our guide's name was Daniel, but I could be wrong. He was in his 20s I think, and he was hysterical. One addition to the tour since '04 were the headsets. This was wonderful since you could actually hear everything that was said - a big plus when we were following the guide in the park and it was noisy. Another addition was that anytime we had a question that he couldn't answer, he radioed in the question, and someone called back with the answer. I thought that was another very nice touch.

We split into our groups and headed out. I may leave some stuff out, since again I didn't write stuff down, and I tend to get some of this stuff confused with the other trips so forgive me for that... Anyway, we entered backstage near RFC and saw the back of the waterfall. Then we took the vans backstage and got out by the elephant barns. We got to see one of the elephants outside. This time was a little different in that we didn't talk so much about the breeding program at this time - before I remember the big long talk about the AZA and how they figure out who breeds with who and how one of the females would scrape one of the shorter males off on one of the trees (he wasn't quite tall enough). I remember stuff like that because it amused me :rotfl: Anyway, this time we talked more about how Disney does conservation in the wild by keeping track of some type of tortoise and how they count them. Much less interesting if you ask me. ;)

Yes, so then we went to the rhino barn. On the 2 other tours we got to pet Sammy. This time we got to pet Spike. Spike was cool. We got to spend a long time with Spike. Except that Spike had just had a mud bath, so he was pretty grimy. And there were 2 people on the tour that didn't quite understand the part about don't let your arm get stuck down between the huge rhino and the bar part, so the keeper spoke pretty sharply to them at one point. They didn't really listen too closely, but we were almost done anyway. I'd say we got a good 10 min. to pet Spike. With Sammy we got maybe 30 sec. to pet him. So that was the rhino petting segment of our vacation. My mom was happy. Again, not the ribbon guy, and not quite Calvin, but Spike was pretty cool, we both had to admit :teeth:

As we passed the giraffe barn I asked about the Rothschild giraffe that had been there on the tour in Jan. '04. He was very cute, I got his slobber all over me. AK had been a holding area for him - he was going to be sent somewhere to be bred and his enclosure had yet to be built. The zoo where he was raised didn't have grass, so he was afraid of grass. So at AK he had this huge enclosure and wouldn't walk on the grass, just the dirt. He had stripped all of the trees bare - at least the ones he could reach from the dirt area  I was very happy to hear that he has overcome his fear of grass. How you ask? He is now a happy ladies' man out on AK's safari :thumbsup2 His intended zoo never built the enclosure so AK got to keep him. Yay! :goodvibes

After that we went to visit the vet place. We spent more time here than previous visits. I don't remember much here. Again, I suppose since it didn't have to do with the animal's love lives I don't remember much :rolleyes1 . We did see a picture of their $$$$$$$$ van that they use in the field - that sucker must cost a fortune. Can't take the elephants and giraffes inside after all... The vets that spoke to us were very knowledeable and nice.

We got our little break after this complete with water and cookies and encounter with a little alligator. We had a potty break and my mom disappeared for a while. I became a bit worried, but she insisted she was fine. Remember she hadn't had an attack in a few days? Uh oh... Anyway, we got to pet the alligator which was fun. Then we headed over to see how the food is prepared. Yum. Dead rodents. See, not mice, we call them rodents. :lmao: Yup. Whatever.

Then we got to go on the Safari without the spiel. I won't ruin all the surprises on that. Besides, I'd already done that for my mom before the tour, so she knew about most of them ;) There are always things I'd forgotten about though, so it's always a blast to do the tour again. Then we walked back into the park to fill out the survey and get our pin. I have 6 of them. I really need to learn how to use Ebay... At that point my mom informed me that she needed to find a bathroom. NOW! So she disappeared for a while. I filled out the survey, then waited in the air conditioned bathroom for about 30 min. for her to emerge.

She looked rough. We wandered slowly out of the park, stopping at every bathroom on the way out. She really enjoyed the tour. She just really hated her IBS right about then. Finally she thought she could make it back to AKL, so we prayed that the bus would come quickly. It didn't, but she did make it back.

On the way back we discussed my bites and what to do about it. Now neither of us had any experience with bed bugs. And you watch those things on CNN but do you really *watch* them? Do you really pay attention and scan your room for them when you arrive? Okay, I now know that Andre does inspect every room that he stays in (I grew up staying in Motel 6, he grew up staying in nothing below a Marriott) :rotfl2:. I research everything on-line. I had no internet access. Not even DisneyQuest since we just had regular APs. So I couldn't really make an informed decision about this. I knew they weren't mosquito bites or poison. Beyond that, who knew? I knew I had the black stuff on my sheets, but didn't know what that was either.

We did know one person who had bed bugs when they were away - our next door neighbor's son. So we called our next door neighbor. I explained the situation and she said that that's what it sounded like. Except that she said the bites should be itchy and they weren't. But bottom line I decided that it wouldn't hurt to request a room change. My mom suggested that we switch beds to see if she got bites, then we'd know for sure that it was something in the bed. We called my dad to see what he thought. His immediate reaction was that we should leave everything there so we didn't bring anything home (very practical) followed by of course he didn't think that my mother should sleep in the bug bed, what kind of idea was that?!?!?!?! :rotfl2:

So screwing my courage together I approached the front desk and politely brought up the black fuzzy stuff and the bites and said that I was concerned that we might have bed bugs (said in a non-carrying tone so as not to freak anyone out). She checked the computer and no one had documented the black fuzz sheet change occurrence. She asked what we would like her to do. At that point I froze. I was thinking "well, if it really is bed bugs I would like the Presedential Suite for the rest of the trip and this and that" but what I said was "I would like a room change please". Then she got her manager, who exclaimed that it would be taken care of at once, better safe than sorry, etc, etc. We would be notified if it was bed bugs. Were we ready to move? I said no, but we would be shortly.

Within 10 min. we called bell services as we had been told to do and they arrived with our new (Gold) room keys. We were moved just down the hall about 10 rooms (still pool view). Before bell services arrived, someone from horticulture arrived and started looking at the bed. I explained that I felt bad since I didn't know what it was. He said that it didn't look like anything jumped out right away, but he would look carefully and that they would inspect everything thouroughly and send away whatever they found to be analyzed.

As soon as we were in the new room I turned down my sheets. No black fuzz. Phew... My mom immediately made use of the new bathroom. I unpacked (for the last time) and ran down to the Mara for a quick lunch. We just kind of stared for a while. I wandered the resort and looked at the animals. I felt kind of down. It was a little frustrating to me since it was so hot and crowded and my mom didn't feel well and I couldn't show her or do everything I had wanted to do with her. It's so much nicer when it's just 10 degrees cooler and a little less crowded! So I felt a tad down. Plus I was a little grossed out by the whole bug thing and didn't know if I'd be able to sleep that night. And we had to leave soon. I kind of wanted to leave (gasp!!!) because I felt down and the last 2 days had been pretty rough, but didn't want to leave because, well, it's Disney!

So down time aside and it was time to be on the move and get some serious shopping done. We waited literally 35 min. for a DD bus and we finally arrived at World of Disney. The goal was to find Andre some sort of gift (from Disney and maybe a birthday present too since his birthday was 6/9) as well as to do the rest of our souvenir shopping. I was feeling the pressure with Andre's gift. You see, we started dating about 2 weeks before my birthday. I hate when people (okay boyfriends) give me presents, because as spoiled princess: as it sounds, I usually don't like it and I feel awful that they went to the trouble of getting me something and then I have to pretend to like it and it's just bad all around. But Andre, now he was pretty smart (and different), he used his brain. He called me once during Grey's Anatomy. That's the only TV show I watch. He picked up on that. So for my birthday he bought me the first season on DVD - since I just started watching it this year. See, perfect starting dating present, extremely thoughtful, yet not too intense or over the top. But now the pressure was on me to do the same. Do you know what it's like trying to get him a present at Disney when he has not been immersed in all things Disney yet?! :confused3 I thought I'd be cute and funny and get him sweat pants or something that said "Prince Charming" on it. It's WDW, they *must* sell something that has "Prince Charming" on it. Nope. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Nil. Nothing. I did find out that his mother likes Pooh more than Mickey, so I got her Pooh pasta. I figured that was good for brownie points. Yep, I'd met his mother and liked her and she was easier to shop for than him. And I found lots of stuff for me. What does that say about me? princess: I felt awful. I felt spoiled. I called Andre and begged him to tell me something Mickey or Star Wars related that he desired so that I could buy it for him and make me feel better about myself. He told me that all he wanted from Disney was me home safe again. Boy, thanks, that helped make me feel all warm and tingly inside. Well, it did, :lovestruc , but it didn't help the panicky "I'm not going to be able to find the perfect gift" feeling. Seriously, it was worse than Christmas...

Sadly feeling defeat (my mom was also very disappointed about the lack of Prince Charming merchandise which is saying something since she pretty much hates every guy I've ever brought home), she had a cigarette, and I stared at the clouds. Then we headed for dinner at Raglan Road a little early for our ADR. Guess we didn't even need an ADR! We got in right away. We were seated. And waited. And waited. Finally after about 20 min. our waitress came. She seemed nice enough but preoccupied. We found out after we left that she had another party of 20. Why she took us and didn't give us to another server I don't know because she didn't do a good job with us at all. But aside from her long disappearances (which were explained by the party of 20) everything else was fine. The food was fine, atmosphere was fine, we were just there a looooooooong time waiting for our check. Without music since we were there pretty early.

Then we waited another looooooooooooong time for a bus back to AKL. And then another looooooooooooooooooooooooonger time for a bus to AK for EMH. Now that seemed the height of stupidity to me. We did run our bags back to the room, but that only took a few min. So one bus pulled away when we arrived. And it took us maybe 7 min. to run to the room and back to the bus stop. The same people were waiting when we got back. So I added up a grand total of 30 min. between buses from AKL to its own park AK on evening EMH. That just doesn't make any sense to me. I guess it doesn't have to. It just seemed that we had a horrendous time with buses at AKL. The solution would be to rent a car, but I drive enough during the year, I'd rather complain about waiting for a bus instead of drive myself on vacation ;)

I'd always wanted to see AK at night, and this was a real treat :goodvibes The plan was for my mom and I to walk some of the Tree of Life paths together and then she would head back to the room (by herself!!!!) and I would ride EE and some other rides before going back to the room. I was a tad concerned about her finding her way since she can be directionally challenged, but she assured me that she was capable of asking directions. We really liked walking around the paths together, I just wish some of the pictures would have turned out! Then I ditched, hmm, left my mom in a smoking area. She did have some trouble finding her way out, but she did ask for directions and managed just fine without me.

I talked to Andre for a while as I wandered around AK at night and realized that the lines were very very long for EE. So I talked to him instead for a while ;) We talked about very many things :goodvibes Then I decided that it didn't matter how long the line was for EE, if I intended to ride it at night I had to get in line *now* as there wouldn't be a better chance. He didn't quite understand. He has never ridden a roller coaster. Perhaps I will be the one to change that :rolleyes1 Although my mother says "you can't force someone to go on something." Yes, well, with him I have different, hmm, motivational techniques than I do with her :lmao: Anyway, with that said, yes, I rode EE at night and it was enjoyable, even though I cannot believe that I waited over an hour to ride it. And for 50 min. it was outside. Sure it's themed well, but then you get inside where you can actually read stuff and it's zoom, zoom, zoom, no time to read anything...

So then I wearily trudged out the exit and waited for the bus back to AKL and prayed that my bed would have no buggies. I was happy to see that my mom had made it back safely. She informed me that my dad was bored and had waxed - are you ready? - the toilets. Why? Why ask why? :rotfl: We arrived home to a spotless house, that's for sure.

And you know what? For the rest of the trip I didn't have those bites on my legs. I will finish the rest of the AKL tale later as far as what the staff did (basically nothing), but for my end... I looked up bed bugs when I got home and that's not what the bites were. They didn't itch or occur in clumps of 3 like the pictures of bed bug bites on-line. They weren't mosquito bites. They weren't flea bites. They weren't poison. They weren't hives. I have no clue what they were. But they only happened when I stayed in that room. Once I was out of that room, the bites were gone. And they were bites, not a hot tub rash, because they gradually faded and went away, no antibiotics necessary.

Up next: MK, Chef Mickey's, Epcot, Nine Dragons, and I drag my mom to the bar ;)

Thanks for the helpful hints and the great trip report! I'm off to pack and get ready...we leave tomorrow! I really have enjoyed your report! :goodvibes

DisWedWish,
Loving your trip report. Thanks for taking the time to post in such detail. I'm a mother of an IBD'r so I can relate to the panic that sets in when a restroom is not nearby. On a side note, I've read some research that indicates that smoking cigarettes actually helps IBD patients, so there may be a silver lining to that.
Looking forward to the rest of your report.
Tina

We slept in today. I think until 8:15 :rotfl2: Anyway, again my mother was pleased to have Mickey and Stitch awaken us. I was pleased to note that I didn't have any more bites :teeth: We made coffee/tea in the room and were off to the MK. Oh, funny side-note about making tea in one of those coffee pots. The first time my mom tried to do that at POR was hysterical. We have a hot shot at home. You put the hot water in, press a button and it makes the water hot (hence the title of the appliance ;) ). This is how she heats water for tea. I know how to operate a coffee maker. She does not. She was confused by the instructions presented on how to heat water using the coffee pot. She didn't replace the lid on the coffee pot. That was rather amusing to me. I caught it before anything went majorly wrong, but it was very amusing :lmao: Now she knew the drill. Anyway...

We waited not too very long for a bus to MK (aka only about 15 min.). We hadn't ridden Snow White together since I was 5 so we tackled that one. My mom agreed that the prince doesn't have a very large role. We also saw Philharmagic again since my mom liked it so much. Then I judged it prudent for a cigarette break, quick run for FPs for Space Mtn., followed by the monorail to the CR.

Good thing I was prudent and we arrived 60 min. before our ADR. We waited 45 min. just to check-in for our ADR! All the other people waiting also had ADRs. I was amazed. I was also intrigued to see the only other pair of Athens Crocs of the entire trip - an 8-year-old girl behind me had a green/orange pair on, so we talked for a while. My mom and I skipped the plate picture and were seated quickly after we finally checked in.

I'd figured that my mom would enjoy CP better, but wanted to give her the experience of Chef Mickey's :teeth: I was right, she definitely preferred CP. But we got a lot of cute pictures and I got to drag her into the CR so it was good. I wore my Chip and Dale shirt so that was fun when they came around. Chip made me use my napkin to cover Dale up when I got my picture with him. We had a good time. I don't think I could drag my mom back there again, but I have aspirations of getting her to Ohana and the Lilo and Stitch breakfast perhaps...

So we took the monorail back to MK. We both thouroughly enjoyed Stitch's voice when we approached MK. What can I say, we love Stitch :teeth: I used both SM FPs while my mom had a few cigarettes. I grabbed some FPs for Buzz. While we waited for those we rode Carousel of Progress. My mom remembered this from the World's Fair. Boy, she's old  j/k. She kicked my rear at Buzz and gloated, yet again. I don't know what I do wrong, I hold the trigger down, my hand-eye coordination should be superb, but I just can't do it :sad2:

Anyway, we decided that we would really attempt to do the rest of WS this afternoon and tonight before our dinner at Nine Dragons. On our way out, we stopped at that side street off of Main Street to hear the "Music Lessons". Today there were piano lessons so this was fun. My mom got a kick out of it.

First stop in Epcot was the Living Seas to visit Calvin. Umm, don't tell Andre ;) Yes, so on the way we saw Nemo and Coral. My mom liked Coral almost as much as Devine and got her picture with her/him/it. Whatever it is. She thought it was cool. We both thought it was funny that she was outside and after about 5 min. walked closer to the air conditioned doors. She was smart.

We quickly walked through the countries until we reached America. Okay, I did stop and pay some outrageous amount of $ for some ice cream in France. And my mom did stop for a cigarette. In America the fife and drum corps was there, so we watched that for a while. My mom really liked them. Then we went inside and waited for the next showing of AA. This is another thing I always say I will do and never make the time for. We watched the Voices of Liberty and then watched the show. My mother made a couple of cracks about the glossing over/Disneyfication of some historical events but admitted that she really enjoyed it.

Our next stop was the smoking area in Germany. I had a few really nice shots of the Dwarf topiaries in Germany from there. We took our time and wandered in and out of the shops. I hoped that something would catch my eye for Andre. I knew he liked fortune cookies a lot and figured that worst case scenario I could get him some of those in China. I mean, they had to sell those, right? Uh huh. :rolleyes1 Think again.

So we watched Reflections of China which was very nice. We both enjoyed it. Then we began the fortune cookie search. I was desperate. That doesn't mean you'll find something though. We came up empty handed. Sadly. And during this whole search I kept coughing, I was coming down with a cold. During the AA I'd started this dry irritating cough. My voice was starting to get raspy. I sounded pathetic. My mom was attempting to cheer me up and told me she had a secret. After a couple half-hearted attempts at not telling me she told me that Andre had called my dad and had stopped by the house to drop something off for me, but it was wrapped so she didn't know what it was. Great, thanks, that really makes me feel better about not being able to find him anything! It did do a good job about taking my mind off my cough though :thumbsup2

We still had a lot of time, so I went to TT to get FPs for later. Then we had dinner at Nine Dragons. I'd eaten here once in '99. It was okay. That trip wasn't the best. Poorly planned (I didn't plan it), poorly executed - can you believe I was ready to go after 3 days?! Nine Dragons was the only restaurant that we ate at on-property. Anyway, my mom and I both like Chinese, so I figured we could try it. We got the DDE discount, it was worth a shot.

We both liked it. It wasn't a favorite, but my mom said she'd definitely eat here again. We both had wine and split the sampler. It was a lot of food, but definitely tasty. Our server was very sweet, hey, she even carded me, you can't be nicer than that ;) Andre told me she must have been blind  That's because he's 3 years older than me (30+) so I constantly make fun of him for being "old". I told him that wasn't very nice... ;)

So after dinner we rode TT. Then we watched Illuminations for the last time of the trip (No, No, the trip must not end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). We both talked to our princes, and were ready for bed, but not just yet. It was a little too late to use the night vision goggles to look at the animals. But not too late for Victoria Falls to be closed :Pinkbounc I told my mom that if we were going to go there it had to be tonight, come on we had to try it, pretty please princess: .

She agreed and I drug my mom to the bar. We both had a glass of wine (enough time had passed since dinner for it to be okay for my mom to have another) and sat at one of the tables. There weren't too many people there. My mom quickly got a bit freaked out. Apparently she thinks guys check me out :confused3 I don't get it. She always thinks that. Apparently I am clueless and never notice it. It needs to be OBVIOUS for me to notice. I thought she was lying or just joking. She said that seriously she felt uncomfortable and asked if we could leave soon. For heaven's sake it was WDW not some club! :sad2: So we left. We go on a cruise in October (my aunt and uncle, my mom and dad, and me (in my own room) ). That should be fun :lmao:

Up next: MGM, LTT, MK

We got up later than yesterday. Maybe 8:30. My dad had been yelling at me to allow my mother to sleep in a little. We had breakfast at the Mara. I'd found something that I liked - their breakfast wrap. Although by this point of the trip we were both quite sick of bacon. We both picked it out of everything we got. There is only so much bacon one person can eat after all, and we had reached our limit.

Next came my second irritating encounter with AKL concierge (front desk) CMs. I wanted to make ADRs for the Plaza restaurant for dinner. I knew we probably didn't need them, but I figured better safe than sorry. And when I tried to call from the room with the dining key it said to go to the front desk. The CM told me I couldn't make ADRs for the Plaza. I told him that I was certain you could. "No, you can't." "Yes, I'm pretty sure you can." "No, you can't." "Are you positive?". At least he finally looked... And found that yes - you can!! :rotfl:

I'd wanted to get one last ride in on ToT and RnR. It never gets easier to leave, does it? No matter how long you stay at WDW whenever you leave it's always "one last time" for this and that. I also hoped to find something for Andre. I did get to ride my rides. I didn't find anything for Andre.

Our bus ride to MGM was funny. I had on my Flower shirt. It said "Love Stinks". On the way onto the bus the driver said "Love stinks, huh? That's a pretty funny shirt." I laughed and got onto the bus. We sat in the back. 2 min. later the driver sat down next to me in the back and said "So why does love stink?" I said, "trust me, you don't really want to know." And he said "sure I do.". After a quick glance at my mother followed by her brief nod I said "well my mom and I are here to celebrate my impending divorce, my soon to be ex-husband met a 13 year old girl among other details which I will omit." He said "Okay, I guess that definitely gives you the right to wear that shirt." :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: He chit-chatted with the other woman on the other side of us, then returned to the front of the bus. When he got to the front the woman next to us (who was alone) started talking to us about how friendly he was and how she wouldn't want to drive the buses. We agreed that they must take happy pills. Now, remember, the driver is driving the bus at this point. He respons "Nope, no happy pills ma'am, we just enjoy doing our job." Eeek! You mean they have some kind of monitoring system in those buses!!!!! :lmao: Anyway, he kept up a running commentary with those of us in the back of the bus all the way to the TTC. So that was highly entertaining and made the bus ride go by very quickly.

Once we reached MK I finally round something for Andre :woohoo: Granted it wasn't anything big or flashy. It was in the Confectionary shop on Main Street - it was a huge rice krispie treat, fudge, and peanut brittle in a plastic Mickey head (like the kiddie meal type only bigger). Perfect, cute, not too $$$, slight hint of Mickey, and best of all, if we decide after I return that we hate each other it will be gone soon so no lasting reminders of me. You know, a practical gift ;) So all was right with the world. I'd worry about the perfect birthday gift later...

We headed to Tomorrowland (yet again) and I rode Space Mtn. (yet again). I think we did Stitch twice, Buzz (did I lose? you guess :rolleyes1 ), and TTA. During this time it started to pour, so we spent some time under awnings waiting for it to stop. Oh, and remember that phone call I got last week about a piano lesson? I got another call. It was the mother of the student whose nanny called last week. Did I lose you yet? She wanted to know if she could change her lesson (I teach both mother and daughter). I returned her call and said I was in Tommorrowland. She actually put me on hold. Can you believe that?! I was rather stunned. I didn't know what to do. Do you hang up on someone for that? Fortunately it wasn't for very long, but still. And then she didn't show up for her make-up lesson anyway...

We wandered some more shops, visited some more smoking areas, and
decided to go to Guest Relations for a quick question. We didn't know what to do about the bed bug situation. We wanted to know if they found anything and how to proceed. Maybe Guest Relations had pictures of bed bug bites? Sure it was a long shot, but hey, we were desparate and knew that if anything they would be nice.

The guy who took care of us was very nice. Although it was kind of scary because once I gave my name he pulled up my info. He had my previous address which wasn't surprising. What was scary was that I had written a few complementary letters in 2/03 and they were on file - not that they were nice letters, just that I had written letters. I did hasten to assure him that they were not complaint letters. Then we explained the situation, explained that we didn't know what to do. He disappeared in the back for several minutes. When he came back he explained that he had called over to AKL and they were very aware of the situation and that it was being looked into. He couldn't do anything since the parks and resorts were separate (well, that I figured), but what we should do was ask to speak to the housekeeping manager and they would let us know what was happening. We were thankful that he took so much time to help us.

After all that bug talk we were hungry, so we went to LTT for lunch ;) I love lunch at LTT! My mom did too. Even if we had to endure the family from hades for the beginning part of lunch. The one with the screaming kids where the mom and grandma are too busy applying their lipstick and instead of telling the kids "no" or even talking to them just attach their toddler teathers (leashes) to the chairs/strollers. Oh well, not my problem. :rolleyes1 They were just loud and a tad rude. I felt sorry for the kids. I guess as long as the mom/grandma had nice lipstick that's what counts right? (sorry, catiness in there...). So my mom had soup and liked it. I had the salmon and loved it. My mom had the apple pie and I had the shortcake. Heaven. :teeth:

Then it was time to subject my mother to the wonders that are Toontown. She had never been there. We also wanted to ask about the Photopass CD. I had been in contact with my friend and she had said that she and her husband would be interested in splitting the cost of the CD if we added their pictures to our CDs. I didn't know if we could do this or if we could add borders or if we'd have too many pictures, etc, so I needed to ask. And knew that we could do this at Toontown. So I drug my mom through Mickey and Minnie's houses. It rained some more. I asked my Photopass questions and was told to wait until our last night, advised that we could add my friend's pictures as long as we had her numbers, and told we couldn't add borders on the CD.

Then we rode the train around the park and got off at Frontierland, I grabbed a FP for Splash and BTMRR. We went on HM. I was very happy to point out Master Gracey's rose which had been missing on our previous visits. The princess: can't be wrong after all... I lusted after the big pin of the castle that was very very expensive in one of the shops as we waited (again) for the rain to stop. Then I used my FPs. Then more shops.

Then dinner at Plaza. Now I can say that I've eaten at every sit down restaurant in the MK. :teeth: It was pretty good. We were seated next to 2 women who were there for a wedding. I didn't quite understand how long they were there for, but they weren't too happy. I guess they were staying at WL and were on the dining plan. They were used to DL and really weren't prepared for how large and spread out WDW was. They also expected that since they were on the dining plan to just arrive and be seated at whatever restaurant they chose. So they were quite unhappy. But we listened and nodded and they seemed to feel better after that :)

We both had sandwiches and split a sundae. It was a cute place - nothing spectacular, but a decent meal. My mom really liked the potato salad and has successfully recreated it here at home. After dinner it was time for Spectro. We saw it from inside Tony's but didn't hear the music, so we decided to watch it as best we could from outside the Plaza. We were several people back, but could see well enough. Between Spectro and Wishes (which we watched from outside of CP) I talked to Andre for a while, that was very nice. :goodvibes Then we watched Wishes and headed back to AKL. The trip back from MK to AKL takes *forever*. Both waiting for a bus and then the actual ride itself. We both would have been standing but an older gentleman gave up his seat for my mom and then a 12 year old boy gave up his seat for me. I started to insist that I could stand, but his father told me that he was trying to teach him good manners. Works for me ;) So I spent the trip back talking to his mom and younger brother about their trip. They were leaving the next day. So the ride wasn't as bad as it could have been...

Once we got back I ran down to use the hot tub briefly. Again, this was one of those "now or never" type situations. Then I packed. Because if you pack the night before the night before you leave it's slightly less depressing and overwhelming. It's still pretty depressing. Although I have to say, I was pretty excited to be going home. I would get to see Andre again and that was very exciting :Pinkbounc :bounce: . Plus it was very very hot and was much more crowded than what I was used to, so I was ready for (*gasp*) a brief break from WDW. I needed to rest and recover fully for my next trip :teeth: And my mom was also looking forward to going home. I think she was a bit concerned about what project my dad was attempting next - I mean what else was there to wax? He'd done the cars, the washer, dryer, hot water heater, and toilets. And the whole nutrition thing - eating cold soup out of a can for 2 weeks straight can't be very healthy... Even if you do remember to take your vitamins.

But we still had one day left :goodvibes Up next: AK solo, GF, MK, CRT dinner

I love this report! I really do, you seem to be having so much fun with your mother :) . I am sure you are anxious to get home and find out what suprise awaits you, I know i would be

diswedwish, I have the same problems every year about bug bites on my legs. I have sensitive skin and I guess the bites are from those little gnats called noseeums. After I get the bites if I don't take care of them immediately, I get blisters and after they burst, it's NOT a pretty picture. So now I've learned to always put bug repellant on my legs every morning before going to the parks. These bites don't itch either.

I've really enjoyed reading your reports. Wishing you and Andre the best of luck.

I'm loving your reports.

Reminds me of my mom. She also smokes. I know most of the smoking areas by now, which she never remembers.

Great report. :thumbsup2 I have been reading for hours and it is wonderful. Thanks for sharing your trip with your mom with us.

I enjoyed reading your newest post. The safari tour sounds great, we are doing it for the first time in October. :)

Great trip report! Thanks for sharing! You helped my afternoon fly by at work today!

Have enjoyed your report thoroughly - where's the rest??

I am really enjoying your report! And I will DIE if there are bed bugs at AKL in 36 days. I have watched the TV reports, read the newspaper stories, and I will be conducting a THOROUGH inspection of every inch of that hotel room with a flashlight and a magnifying glass. Gone are the days of simply "Don't put your face on the bedspread" and "Clean that remote with a Clorox wipe before you touch it!" I won't dismantle the headboard unless it is absolutely necessary because I bet it will get tangled in that mosquito netting, but if there is ANY sign of bed bugs I will come completely unglued.

I am sorry to hear about your experience at Artist Point! I am pleased that they offered to make it up to you, but really, would it have been THAT difficult to allow you into the dining room? Anyway, we love Kona and I am glad you had a magical dinner there! :)
