dolphins in Key West

I know this is a long shot but here goes anyway....has anyone been to Key West and gone on a boat trip to see dolphins in the wild? We'll be there in August after Disney, had thought about treating our daughter to a dolphin swim at the Dolphin Research place on Grassy Key, but wonder if this would be a better option as we all get to experience it. I know you don't get to swim with the dolphins and may not even see them but has anyone any firsthand experiences with specific companies? Thanks!

We've just returned from a trip which included a visit to the Dolphin Research Centre onGrassy Key. DDs both participated in different 'interaction' programmes (neither of them involved actually swimming) and I would highly recommend it if you didn't have to go to Key West. It was great for people accompanying those participating to be able to watch.

We have our accommodation in Key West all booked so if we booked the Research swim it would have to be on the way to or from Key West. I know Chloe would love it though. She was chosen to interact with the dolphins on a trip we made in '96 when she was 7 (at Busch gardens) and has always wanted to actually do a swim.

We'll have to think about this one but it's good to hear a positive report about the Grassy Key place.

We have been to Key West twice whilst crusing DCL and both times went out with Dolphin Watch USA to find wild dolphins. It was fantastic. The guides are really knowledgable and know the dophins individually and because the dolphins know the boat so well, they come up really close and stay around for ages. we saw loads, including a week old baby and a mating pair!

It's not cheap but worth EVERY penny. You can get more info on their website
