My family decided to stay at the Dolphin for our October stay on the teacher rate that we saw on this board. However, when I went to check on reservations from this site, the cost is coming up $219 instead of $139. I haven't contacted them directly. Is this discount for selected dates only or do I need to contact them directly?
Thank you for your help!

You have to contact the hotel directly for the Teacher Rate.

Please post and let me know how you made out. We made reservations at the Swan for 10/22 - 11/1 hoping to use th Gov't rate since dh works for the county here. When we made the ressies in the beginning of Jan. the gov't rate wasn't in the system yet and they told us we coluld book to save our room and then call back at the end of the month to see if the rates were in the system yet. NOPE, I called again last week and they still aren't available. We decided to book the WL instead. If the rates become available I might switch if the price is right :D

The discount isn't offered everyday, and only a limited number are available to begin with. Originally we were going to go last October, but like you, we couldn't get discount dates on the weekend.
I have 6 nights at the Dolphin during Easter week, booked last Oct., but my sister tried to book for the same time a couple of weeks ago and only 2 of her 4 nights showed the discount. She was able to book the discount for her entire stay at the Swan, so don't forget to check there too.
BTW- Dreams Unlimited showed discount availabilty when the Dolphin ressie desk didn't, so I stick with them.

We booked through DU for the Dolphin and are getting the nurse rate (same as teacher rate). It does say $139.00/night, but ends up $219.00 because it depends on the type of room and the number of people in the room. The $139.00 per night is for one person in a standard room. We have 3 adults and 2 children and requested a room w/ balcony w/ resort view, therefore it jumped up to $219/per night. Which, is still 50% savings, because if you check on disney's website, for a balcony resort view room in April costs over $400.00 per night! :earseek:

The teacher rate is actually double occupancy, standard view. We had 3 rooms TG week on this rate. Our rooms were great, though, very close to the pool and Tubbi's (where the refill mugs are!). Good luck getting the rate.

The Swan and Dolphin are not Disney properties (I'm sure you knew that) and rely almost exclusively on convention business. Having planned one I can tell you it is not unusual to commit to convention dates two or more years in advance. So it is possible that the hotels are full for that week.

Also, other countries don't have the same school breaks and holidays that we do so there may be a foreign group already holding rooms for that period. We stayed at the Dolphin Christmas 2001. We had booked in June and got the government rate. When we checked in, the bellman told us that we would see a lot of Japanese tourist during our stay because a tour group had checked into more than 1,000 rooms at the Dolphin and several hundred at the Swan a few days earlier, but would be leaving the following Sunday.

We thought the AP rate was still too high for us over President's week this year so I tried for two weeks to book the Swan or Dolphin and couldn't get more than one night of our stay at the government rate at either hotel. I was about ready to give up and pay the higher AP rate one night while posting to the Dis and decided to try DU and see if they could get the government rate. Afterall, there was no charge if they couldn't. I received an e-mail that they had it for us but I was sweating bullets 'til I received the official Swan's confirmation number via e-mail a couple of days later. When we were checking in, they did ask for proof of government employment so I showed them my State I.D. badge. I also overheard one of the desk clerks tell one woman that they were 100% booked and couldn't give her a room for even the night and recommended she try some of the hotels on Hwy-192.

So if you can't get it with the S/D reservations, give DU a try. They might be able to make the reservation for you despite what the reservationist are telling you. There is no fee to use them and you might get lucky.
