Dolphin/Starwood Pref. Question

I have just been approved for the Amex Platinum Card. Do I now wait untill I receive it in the mail to upgrade my Starwood Card to Gold? or can I do that now? Will I be able to use my additional points for my April trip? Thanks for any answers!!

I'm not sure if you need to wait or not. I can't remember if they asked for my Amex number when I upgraded last year. Be advised that it might take a couple of calls before you get a customer rep that will upgrade your membership to gold.

you can start using your points as soon as you have them in your account

I just upgraded my membership to Gold. I called when i was approved and they said i would have to wait and give them my card number when it arrived. However when i got the card they only asked for a code which i did not have but they said it was either TV or TB. Give it a try and see

I just called today and got my SPG changed to Gold.

I received my Platinum AMEX card last month. I've already used it to purchase my passes and pay for my stay. When I called today, I just said that I had the AMEX card and wanted to change to Gold status. The agent said to hold for a few minutes and then came back and said it was done!!!

I went to the spg website, customer service, FAQs, then clicked on the replace a card link. I was able to print a temporary card and it is GOLD!

So then I went to swandolphin.com and requested an upgrade for when we checked in and stated that we were SPG Gold. We'll see what happens!

Just a few more days!

I think I'll wait untill I receive my card in the mail. That way I'll have all the information I need. I'll purchase my park passes then as well. Can't wait!!!

If I have an Amex gold card, but not the Starwoods Amex card, can I get an upgrade to a gold Starwoods membership?

I've got a preferred plus Starwoods membership now (or something like that...I got it because we have a AAA membership), and I'm not sure what a gold Starwoods membership adds anyway, but always like to increase my chances for a room upgrade

It took an email and 2 calls to get my upgrade to gold! I think you need to press option 3.. special promotions... The CM that I spoke to the 2nd time was so great! My upgrade to gold was done quickly and the woman was so helpful! So my advice is to keep trying if you don't get gold the first time!

It says these are the benifits:Complimentary membership in SPG Preferred Plus
This is a new level of Starwood Preferred Guest, that offers: 1) Complimentary upgrades to a preferred room at check-in, when available; 2) 4pm late checkout; 3) Free weekday newspaper. If you are not yet a Starwood Preferred Guest member you will automatically be enrolled upon approval of your credit card application.

You can get the exact same program if you're a member of AAA.

oh well, I am not a AAA member, but my husband qualified
for an AMEX card tonight. so we can use that for our
gold preferred membership.
