We booked the Dolphin and i was excited until I read some posts on tripadvisor. I'm seeing really negative posts, including remarks about mold. I'm super mold sensitive. Should I be cancelling there and staying elsewhere? Is there something I can do to get a better room there?

We stayed there in 05 after I had also read some similar posts. We didn't experience any mold or smells. I am asthmatic and quite sensitive. I would have noticed.

I've noticed that tripadvisor has a lot of negative reviews about every resort. One thing to keep in mind when reading reviews, there are studies that show people are much more likely to report negative experiences than good experiences.
Someone with a good experience is not only less likely to report it, but they also tend to not go into as much detail. People who were pleased, but not 'wow'ed by the experience, tend to not say anything - or say something like "it was OK.

If you're worried about allergens, you can ask for a deep clean of your room, before you arrive. I think the Dolphin will do this, I know that other Disney resorts will, but as Dolphin isn't Disney owned, they may not offer this. If you can get it, it might just give you that extra piece of mind.

We stayed there for 3 nights during summer 2007.

I never saw any mold, but there could have been. Our room was damp. Very damp. Anything wet that we ever hung up (washcloths, towels, bathing suits, etc.) NEVER dried.

I just stayed there in late June and the room was great--clean, big, no mold! As a matter of fact, we had connecting rooms and both were great.

I love tripadvisor because anything said there is probably wrong. I was looking for Thai food and there was this lovely Thai restaurant close by. It was dark, hot, dingy, dank, and they only took cash because the credit card machine was down. It was rave review and sounded so good.

tripadvisor is open to anyone who wants to join and review. I have seen some reviews of places that I think are great that are lies. If the Dolphin or any WDW site was dangerous, moldy, or otherwise then one person would have reported in on a board, chat room, forum or other place then word would have spread. People would have agreed and added more info or debunked the story as you seen here.

I may be going to San Antonio in 10 days and their suggestions were so wrong that I only used it for the amusement parks and that was common knowledge. I see it as an affiliate site where people give free reviews and the site makes money from affiliates such as google.

I have asthma and chronic lung disease and found my stays at the Dolphin to be great. I don't remember any mold.
As to the PP that mentioned the room being damp, I do remember reading a while ago that the air conditioning has a motion sensor on it, causing it to shut down (or raise the temp, I'm not sure which) when someone is not in the room. Thus the room could be damp from the air not running and pulling the moisture out. The advice was to leave a balloon near the motion sensor, causing the air to stay on.
I don't know if this is still the same, but thought I would mention it!

We never had difficulty with the air going off or coming back to a hot room...it was always very comfortable. It was something I was concerned about as heat is my enemy!!! I was prepared to ask that the motion sensor be disabled if I had any problems--but it wasn't necessary.

stayed there october 2006, never stay there again, im glad people had good experiences but my experience was not! room had musty smell, one of the bed had bedbugs! yep thats right got bit 7 times, finally switched to other bed with no problems, food there made me sick! diarrhea all nite and into next am! dont get me wrong i am not a complainer, and i usually go with the flow, but for the kind of money you spend for this resort, it was not good, and i had a nurses discount!:surfweb: just trying to shed some light on both sides of subject.
