i'm going to the dolphin resort in june and was wondering about the internet access there.

wondering....

what speed internet do they provide?(56k, cable, etc)
are there computer provided or do i have to bring my own?
if i have to bring my own, is there a computer rental and if so how much does that cost?
is there a charge per minute or hour while using it in your room(not the internet cafe, the access in your room)?

thank you,
jeff

I can't find it on their site right now, but I am certain that the high speed connection is included in your rate (technically, I think it is considered as part of the resort fee.)

There is an ethernet connection in the room. I am pretty sure I've seen a picture of it around here somewhere on the boards. You might be able to do a search and find it.

So, in sum: you don't have to pay for it; just plug your own computer in and go.

Hi,
We used the internet connection at the Dolphin during our Sept 2004 trip and it was great. It is included in the $10 a day resort fee and I believe it is a broadband connection as I have DSL at home and the connection at the Dolphin seemed faster.

thanks, appreciate your responses.

can't wait to go there :)

does anyone know if there are computers available for rent there?

The internet speed is cable (T1).

You need your own computer (laptop) with an internal cable modem (ethernet input).

To my knowledge there is none to rent - never have heard that b4 anyway. I was there last August and I brought my laptop.

There is an ethernet cord on the desk, next to the television. You simply plug it in to your cable modem and log on to internet explorer - it will bring you to the Swan and Dolphin home page and you can begin surfing to whatever site you like.

The internet usage is part of your 10$ a day resort fee, along with your dail USA Today.

I had to do minor changes because I had my internal wireless set up from using it @ home, but it was under 5 minutes to get up and running.

Have fun, LOVE the S&D!

Just to clarify, your computer doesn't need an internal cable modem, it just needs an internal ethernet card with a Category 5 jack, which almost all laptops have these days.

This is correct, or you can also use an external ethernet card (fairly inexpensive) in you pc slot on your laptop in the event you do not have an internal card built in. You should have no problem getting logged on. Sorry I relaize "cable modem" was unclear.

Actually, we stayed at the Dolphin in November and accessed the interenet via the TV in our room. (They had this web-TV-like keyboard, and for 9.95 a day you could use it to access the internet via the TV.) We didn't ask for this...it was just available in the room. It worked quite well...we used it a few times to check on our return flight schedule and my DH used it to do his Fantasy Football line-up! : )
