Dolphin Epcot View Renovated Room Question

Hi Everyone,

I have a question that I hope someone on the boards can answer.

Me, My DW, DD and DS are going to Walt Disney World the beginning of May. I reserved a Dolphin Epcot View Room. When I called up to request a renovated room I was told if I wanted to guarantee a Renovated room there would be an additional charge per night (I forget if it was $60 or $90 a night).

I know that a request is not guaranteed, but I couldn't believe they were going to charge for a guarantee, I understand they can do as they please, but to me that was ridiculous, so I left it as a request and am taking my chances.

I have 2 Questions:

1. Do you think the renovations on the rooms will be done by May 5th, that is when we arrive?

2. Do you think the additional fee for a guaranteed renovated room is crazy or worth it?

It sounds like Epcot View is a booking category that costs more than a non Epcot view room. That is something that is not uncommon in hotel room availablity if it is that

I understand paying for the Epcot view room, I know a room with a better view cost more, and I am paying for that, what I don't understand is paying to guarantee I get a renovated room while they are renovating the ALL the rooms in the hotel and they might be done by the time I get there, that I never heard of. I travel often and usually when I ask for a nicer room in the same category that I paid for, if it's available they just give it to me, and I understand if it's not available.

But my main question, does anybody know if they will be done renovating rooms by May 5.

I do not think they will be even close to being done. They are doing major hvac and other repairs as they renovate. The Swan took a very long time. They did the same with Swan and if you wanted a Reno room you booked it. They called it a deluxe room or something like that online and had photos of the new rooms. Each view category got a deluxe category.

I think I saw somewhere that the Dolphin room refurb was set to bed done in "summer." I'm looking to book a resort view room at the Swan in mid-May, because I know those rooms are newly renovated. The price is very similar to Boardwalk/Yacht Club, but I can't guarantee a king bed or a renovated room at either of those. I'd prefer to know what I'm getting and STILL be in walking distance to Epcot.
