Hi--I've searched "dolphin encounter" threads until my eyes were bleeding, and I haven't come up with an answer to my question. Is this doable: If we book a dolphin encounter through the dolphin swim place (not Disney) can we bring a lunch with us? For instance, I read somewhere that someone had ordered from room service on board the ship, then took the lunch with them to the beach. Also, if we book through the dolphinswims.com, do we also get to go to the beach on Blue Lagoon Island? I saw that someone said that they could walk to the ferry from the Disney ship--is that right? I though that you had to get a taxi. If we have to have lunch at the Blue Lagoon Island grill, how expensive is it? I saw VERY expensive, but are we talking $20 a plate, or what? TIA, we're first time cruisers and this is all very confusing. (You should see the mess I'm making of trying to get passports.)

we did the blue lagoon dolphin encounter - and our lunch was included - we got a ticket and were allowed to have some bbq foods that they offered there - we took the ferry over from the ship to blue lagoon and after our encounter and lunch - we walked the beach and got back on the ferry to go back to the Ship.

When you get off the ship - it is a very short walk to the ferry - I had just had surgery three weeks prior and had no problem walking to the ferry.

you can ALSO pack a cooler with water, crackers, cheese and stuff like that - I did - I had my water and a bottle of soda for the DH and crackers and stuff for DD.

I hope that helps you a little :)

Lunch is included if you book the shore excursion through Disney, but it's not included if you book directly through Dolphin Encounters at their website. The difference is quite hefty--$113 through Disney, $85 through Dolphin Encounters. Our daughter would only be $88 through Disney, but the rest of us are considered adults. So we were wondering if lunch was really worth the $30 difference! And what alternatives might be open to us.

OH GOODNESS NOOOOOOOO the lunch is SOOO not worth $30.00 - not at all! guess we did not plan that one correctly! the BBQ is ok - but my home BBQ's are better! DH had chicken and I think I had a burger or a hot dog! :earseek:

I would not pay $30 for the lunch available! Definitely bring your own food. Its not a problem at all! And drinks are quite expensive at the Blue Lagoon (just a short walk away). :wave2:

I'm with the original poster..... help! :scared1: I know that when you book a "swim" with them they state that you can't stay on blue lagoon where as when you book with disney you can (according to the excursion details I have read). :sad2:

I sort of have her same type of delemma.... I can book with disney for the "experience for myself, and my 6 yr old, But my 17 year old wants the swim. (I can't blame her its great,,,I did it in cozumel).

anyway I'm running into the transportation problem since I can't find anywhere where it really explains how you get from on place to another in Nassau.

P.S. sound like bringing your own lunch is the way to go... I may just have to book all thru the agency, and not Disney. :fish:

thanks

Transportation is easy. We booked the swim on our own a couple of years ago. When you get off the ship walk over to the main buildings and there will be tons of cabs waiting to take you places. Tell the cab driver that you want to go to paradise island between the 2 bridges. That is where you catch the ferry to blue lagoon, also where they have the ticket window with your reservations. It is just a short cab ride and cost a few dollars per person.

On the return trip the ferry will make a quick stop to drop people off at paradise island & then will take you straight to the ship. Just be sure to tell them before the stop at paradise island that you are from the ship.

At least that is the way it was when we were there.

I drove myself and my DH crazy over whether I should book the Disney excursion or direct. We were on the 4/24 Wonder and I will tell you it was great. My DH finally told me to book through Disney. His theory we spent that much $$ what is a few dollars more.

Here is the day -- You meet with all of the other Disney people for the excursion at 9 am. You walk off of the ship and walk a little distance to a boat that is waiting to take you to the Blue Lagoon. On the boat, there is hairbraiding. Also, they have a Carribean Band playing music and everyone gets a tropical drink. There are tables to sit at and a dance floor. A few people danced. The scenery is amazing. You are on a 35 minute boat road and then you are dropped off at the Island. You are immediately taken to the Dolphin Encounter. When I had originally booked direct, I couldnt get an appt with the Dolphins till the afternoon. After the encounter, which was a once-in-a lifetime experience - you can head over to the area to have lunch which is included. You are right, it is not worth $30 but it was very relaxing. Very similar to Castaway Cay. From there we walked down to the beach where maybe 25 other people were there. It was gorgeous and so relaxing.
We didnt have to worry about finding transportation or lugging lunch. I was also told by Disney that when you go with them - their insurance covers anything that could go wrong!!!

I think it was worth the extra money and if I was to ever go to the Bahamas again on the DCL, I would definitely book the Blue Lagoon Excursion Day because it really was like being at CC for another day!!! Deb :lovestruc

Okay guys, this is the first I've heard of this... actually, this is the first time I've been on the cruise board.

So, WHERE is this dolphin encounter? Which island?

You can catch it out of Nassau.
