First of all, I'd recommend highly. But here are the details for you to judge for yourself:
I used Dollar last October for a week-long vacation in California. We were heading from LA up to Yosemite on the first leg and I had reserved a Jeep Cherokee Laredo online at a great price.
The line when we arrived from LAX on a Saturday afternoon was ungodly long and slow. We weren't in a hurry and it wasn't a problem. Looked as if Fastlane customers were getting helped a little bit faster...but not by much.
Counter attendent was extremely friendly, but she seemed determined to scare me into buying insurance and other extras, which I had to decline on about three seperate go-rounds. I wouldn't call it pushy, but it was close. And of course, when it finally came time to hand over the keys, they did not have a Jeep on the lot.
But here's where it got better, though I wasn't convinced of it at the time. Instead of the Jeep, they offered me a Chrysler Pacifica, which turned out to be a very nice ride. The car was virtually brand new -- a couple thousand miles on it at most -- and gave us plenty of power throughout the Sierra and was quite roomy and comfortable, too. In Yosemite, I took it on a morning drive across Tioga Road, about 150 miles roundtrip across beautiful mountain roads that top out at about 11,000 feet or so and it handled like a dream. I even got stopped at one point by a park ranger for going a little too fast -- luckily, he let me off with a warning.
Anyway, after about 1400 miles that included the trip west from Yosemite to San Francisco and then down the Pacific Coast Highway, we turned the Pacifica in at about midnight with absolutely no problems, once I found the Dollar location. The return took all of about five minutes, and again, the Dollar personnel were all great to deal with.
So my experience was top-notch. I hope yours will be likewise.
