Thinking of booking seperate car hire, as it looks cheaper than paying the travel agents car insurance costs.

I've been looking at Dollar. Is it cheaper to book via dollar.co.uk or dollar.com? dollar.com doesn't seem to mention car insurance costs, while dollar.co.uk seems to include all the insurance costs.

Also, is it cheaper to pay the upgraded insurance which includes a tank of fuel, or just to pay the fuel cost at pick up?

Hi
We book with Dollar.co.uk and we take the extra insurance as it includes fuel and it includes as both as drivers.
We feel it's worth it.

Its also worth checking the likes of

www.usrentacar.co.uk
www.airlinenetwork.co.uk

etc, many other as well, same company, same car, same level of service, just a different method of booking.

You are generally better booking via a UK site as most US sites assume the renter has their own insurance cover and charge a small fortune to supply it on arrival.

Always use the 2 companies JR listed, always been cheaper than Dollar.co.uk and Dollar.com
We have always paid extra for tank of gas and extra driver but some deals with USrenatcar incl extra driver.
Never pay Dollar (or any rental co) for gas, they rip you off, either pay for platinum/gold cover and have in included or take it back full, you can fill it up at Int drive/LBV/Kissimmee areas, no need to pay over inflated prices near airport.

We went into Sanford in 2006 having booked a package deal with Travel City. DH had joined Dollar Express ( no charge) before we went as they state that they have a seperate desk to check in with poss free upgrade etc. When we got to Sanford they didn't have a check in desk for express card holders. DH mentioned this when going through booking in for the car and the lady apologized. He also asked if he would get a free upgrade as he was a Dollar express member. He was told that as the car was part of a package deal he wouldn't. However - when we got to our car we had been upgraded to a mini van from an intermediate - wow were we pleased!!!
If you are thinking of going with Dollar it doesn't cost anything for the membership card and you might be surprised!!!

We booked through Airline Network for our May trip last year and is was cheaper than booking direct but it was the opposite for our October trip so we booked direct :confused3

As with the others, I have used Dollar on three od our vists, booking through Airline Network. Always upgrade to extra driver and tank fuel, as I learned on our first trip that they really overcharge for filling up. I always look around for the best deal, but have found Airline Network hard to beat.

I joined dollar express a little late last year and regretted it. Spent much longer in line at MCO than would have done, as there was no one in the express line. Oh well! Didn't realise they give you upgrades though. Probably won't be a great bonus, as we always book a minivan now, and don't think an upgrade would be much use, but you never know.
