How does the dollar car hire work through virgin - do we get a voucher/code/what to use at the dollar desk? Also - does whatever i need come through the post (and if so do virgin leave it till the last worrying minute like with other tickets?!) or email?

I'm wondering if its still worth joining dollar express thingy or not?

Last August - Did VH with Dollar car rental. Vouchers arrived in post together with Airline tickets - about 7 days before departure :scared1:

Dollar express is definately worth having - Do not use normal Express queue, but got to Virgin information desk , near to Virgin car rental desks. I was put to the front of the queue. Reckon it saved me a good hour.

Quite a few people, do not bother with the Virgin car hire and find booking a car with insurance cheaper than having a FREE Virgin car with their insurance.

This year I am doing DIY - and looking at the following sites for car hire

www.usrentacar.co.uk
www.airlinenetwork.co.uk

Confirm above, it came with my VH tickets, I pre flight gave my details on line to Dollar, and then just checked in quickly at dolalr and took car quickly.

Hi I've booked with VH. I'm guessing i'll be getting the same Dollar rentals. Could you confirm again how to beat the queues please. Sorry if i'm being dumb here!

Register for a Dollar Express card (these are free )
https://www.dollar.com/Express/Enroll.aspx

When you have collected your luggage, you need to go to the VIRGIN car hire desk (opposite the Dollar desk) Here there is a small information desk, where the queue forms for the normal car rental desk. DO NOT WAIT IN THE QUEUE. Go to the information desk and show your Dollar Express card and booking form. They will then put you in FRONT of the queue ready for the next available assistant. :thumbsup2

DISWolves,

You epitomise the very reason behind forums. People helping each other out of goodwill. My thanks. I'll register and hope it goes to plan on the day.
Also have another query. Can i barter with these guys for a chepa upgrade and a GPS unit. I was told i could by the Virgin guy who booked my holiday but want to know if anyone has?

Hi,
us people from wolverhampton are very friendly:imao:
hi diswolves, where in wolvo are you?
sorry back to thread...
we downloaded gps map onto our own tomtom cost about £6 saved us quite a bit...
would even be cheaper to buy a tomtom and do this for a 2 week stay, rather than rent.
p.s. are all virgin packages with dollar? we are flying vh in aug and want to avoid the H U G E queues we have found at rental places, so will avoid whoever virgin is in partnership with.
Thanks
Tracy

Hello Tracy,

Are you sure it's cheaper to buy tomtom than rent? Also is wolverhampton in England?

What I have done in the past, is book a lower grade car and decline the upgrade sales talk at the desk, but find out the best price to upgrade . Each time I have ended with a intermediate or full size (We always go in August so I guess all of the compact cars are out). This is a risk !!!!
If you are unfortunate to get the compact, you can always go back and quote the upgrade price that you were offered. In general..............it is cheaper to upgrade here before you travel.

Wolverhampton (Fordhouses area)............Is the the heart of the West Midlands (Black Country) :woohoo:

Hi, I know there is a specific desk at Dollar for Virgin, but do they still have their separate queue for the Frequent Virgin Club?

We are picking up our dollar car ( through virgin) at the holiday inn i-drive, the day after we arrive (getting a limo from MCO).
We're staying at the embassy suites so it will just be a quick walk up the road to the HI, has anyone else done this? I've looked on the dollar website but the information about the different offices is practically non existent, I tried a dummy booking and 8am was the earliest pick up time so I guess this is when it opens?
I'm hoping that as we're not picking up from the airport, and the fact that it's a Tuesday, there may be a better chance of snagging a decent upgrade (from intermediate).
Tbh I wish we'd not bothered with virgin insurance and booked our own hire car on arrival.

joined dollar express. the site takes a cc to enrol. hope this is safe!

Will consider advice re: upgrade but hope i get a bigger car free.
