I'm going to be using our CC for our trip but need some cash for little extras. We are leaving in 23 days (well 22 until we drive to Maine). Should I buy? I'm thinking $100 for little airport extras and mousekeeping, does that sound like enough?

BUY!!!! The last time it was this low was July 28th. As for $100 being enough, how many days are you staying? Are you tipping at restaurants on your CC? My husband and I took $200 each for extras last trip, 10 nights, we came home with a couple dollars. But my husband's motto on vacation is spend spend we're on vacation!! :lmao: I do believe we used our cash for souviners also.

21 days for us!!:woohoo:

We'll be in the US for 8 days and Disney for 7. We will be tipping TS on our KTTW card. I think I'll go out tonight and buy some. I'll get $100 for now and see if I think we'll need more but hope not -I 'd rather save the money for souveniers!!!!
21 days for you...AWESOME!!! :dance3:

I bought $100 US today for $107 CDN. Why not, I say. :O)

Right now I am playing the "when do I apply final payment" game. With rates this good, i think i will do the CDN Mastercard, but it has to be on the right day.

Hmm. I should have applied some today, actually.

We bought at .86 & thought that was a good deal. Also made our final payment at .86. Wish I had waited now, so I would buy. I hate buying USD, I always feel like I'm gambling :)

I bought yesterday at Royal Bank and $100 US cost me $111. My Capital One has great exchange rate fees so we're going to do 99% of stuff on that.

I know! I feel like it's gambling too - the first thing I did this morning was see if it went up LOL!

Heard on the news the other day that they are anticipating dollar being at par in next few months. That's what I'm gambling on :worship:

Last time we went the Cdn dollar was stronger than the US and but back in 2003 we paid $1.62 for one US dollar :scared1:

Like has been said already.... spin the wheel, it's all a game being played by people much higher up the food chain than I.

We went to Disneyland last year when Canadian dollar was .12 above. Talk about a fairy tale!

We were happy enough to pay of at .92 after intially booking at .82

.93 is a good exchange as you are leaving very soon.
what i have been doing for years now is buying small amounts of u.s. money
months ahead of when i need it. that tends to spread out the exchange rate.
our dollar will be close to par by year end and i will buy more dollars then for our feb 2010 trip.
i am still using money i bought at $1.05 two years ago, my average since 2007 is $1.01. gotta love when we at par or higher.

I am buying U.S money every few weeks as I read an article in the business section last week that the canadian goverment will keep the dollar from rising to par as to not keep us in a recession any longer than we have to.

We refer the weather forecasts here in Calgary "if you don't like what you hear switch to another channel" and of course we always pick the forecast that fits our needs. I think predicting the exchange on the $ is the same way.
