*Doing the Donald in 2010* Jan. Half Marathon Support Thread!

Get to a doc who has x-ray equipment and skip the Chiro unless you know for a fact this is a soft tissue injury.

if you have questions before then, PM me a little more detail on if it hurts as you sit, when it starts to hurt and how long it hurts.

Thanks Charles -

I will definately get xrays on the area - there's been a lot of behind the scenes people working to make sure I take care of myself! :goodvibes

I live in the land of "ignore it and hopefully it will just go away"

I think it started when I slipped on the ice while in training, then got worse when the dog jerked me and again, I slipped - :confused3

Sandy 321 I am sharing your nightmares. The other night I had a dream where I did not yet have my timing chip and everyone was lined up for the race! :upsidedow I think it is related to the fact that I have been sick for one month!! After two rounds of steroids and antibiotics,I am just now trying to get back into my training. Today, I did 6.25 miles, but my pace was 16:00. Before I got sick, I was up to 9 miles at about a 15:00 minute pace. I gotta believe in miracles and hope that my body remembers what it was capable of doing. oh, well! Just keep on trucking:snail::snail:

Good Luck Mimi

and CONGRATS on the 16 mm - you are going to do AWESOME!! :cheer2:

At this point in two weeks we ALL will be wearing our Donald medals with pride!!! :cool1::banana:

Queen Mimi: Don't worry too much about your time right now. You are still recovering. If you have done 15mm then you can get back there. Just don't try to hard right now to get back there too fast! Give your body time to recover and get back in the swing of things!

Sandy321: WOW, sorry to hear about your pain. I would also suggest the xrays. But maybe something is outta wack so to speak from you slipping and then being jerked? Take it easy and I think a 10 miler as your longest at this point should be ok. Can you do like a stationary bike? maybe something where you aren't putting your body weight on the area, just to keep the legs moving while you are working on straightening out the hip.

TAKE CARE and keep up the good work.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!! I KNOW YOU CAN!!!!!

How exciting to be entering the 2 week countdown... I changed up my schedule some and did some speed intervals on a local track.. It was nice to do it there instead of the treadmill.

Tomorrow will be my last double digit run, gonna do 10 miles....

Last night Syko was part of my nightmare - she was cheering me on - she had already finished her race, and was waiting to see who the last Dis'er was - and I got swept...

I know many people who would agree with you that i'm a nightmare.:lmao:

No Wish'ers are getting swept!!

See you Dr. and make sure nothing is broken, then take it easy, you have put in the miles over the last few months, rest, you will be fine and make the time on race day.

:faint: um - that didnt quite come out the way I meant it to!!

Thank you Syko for being an inspiration!!

and the doctor is all set for Monday - so I'm feeling 150% better today :rotfl2: Seriously, no cramping/tightening up at all!! I'm keeping up the heat/cold/ Aleve/ massage techniques, and I'm sure that is helping as well!!

10 miles on Christmas Eve (my first!)
8 miles today

I spent about an hour on my bike yesterday - DH/Santa brought me a bike trainer, so I can ride my racing bike as a stationary bike in the living room.

We're getting close!!!!

Glad your feeling better, but please still get it checked.

I think it came out perfectly....you gave me and Dh such a :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: this morning.....thanks.

Did my 8 mile at 15:40 after a week off due to my blister....sometime I hope to post a pic, it is pretty amazing to see (or, maybe I am just weird? :rolleyes1)

I am still struggling to believe that I am "ready"....the nerves are really starting to kick in. :guilty:

I am getting excited. This weekend the plan called for eight miles. We had lots of snow Christmas Eve so I was on the TM at the Y. I did seven. My left leg (mostly knee) started to hurt in miles six and seven. I'd rather shave a mile here or there than hurt something. Besides, I'll get the rest of my cardio shoveling snow.

I did 7 miles today at a 15:39 pace, in snow flurries and wind. It was a little longer and a little faster than yesterday. I hope to do an 8 mile walk sometime this week. I guess that will have to be my last long one. Then, I will just spend more time on Wii Fit. Every day I feel a little bit better, more like my usual self. Tomorrow, I am going to do that most strenuous aerobic activity, after Christmas shopping!

Is the Christmas weekend over already? Time sure did fly by....

I think today will be my final double digit run until race day.. I added a few extra weeks to Hal Higdon's training plans as I didn't want my 12 mile run the week before the race.... So I am thinking of only doing 5-7 miles next weekend for my "long" run... Hopefully that will leave my legs fresh

Joanne: We must be on the same training plan. I'm using Hal Higdon Intermediate. I'm adding an extra week in as well so I'm planning on just doing a 7 miler for my long run this coming weekend. Though I never got a long run in last weekend because of the weather. So my long run peaked at 11 miles.

It's almost time:goodvibes Hope everyone is ready enough;)

Exact same plan.. I had just done the 11 miler before my surprise 1/2 2 weeks ago so you will be fine...Yesterday my legs weren't fresh for my 11 miles - so I am hoping that a lighter run this weekend will help

Can't believe I just noticed the DM in my inbox and found this thread. Which stinks because I could have used the company! :rotfl2:

I'm Katie and running my first ever half Donald in 2010! I'm so excited and nervous. I've had a few set backs training, I got ITBS, but I'm back and doing well. Ran 10 miles at a 12 min mile pace including breaks for water and gels last weekend. Felt great, no pain and never out of breath. I looked at my fiance and said "I just ran for TWO hours....thats not right" :rotfl:

Its so great to meet you all!

Katie :wave2:
Welcome and please see if you can make the WISH meet at Pop Century food court on Friday at 4:30pm and also look for the Lime Green WiSH racing team members before/during and after the race on Saturday and say "hi"!

You aren't alone! I just found this thread too! This will be my second Donald and my third half marathon. I thought the weather last year was perfect, so I'm getting a little nervous about the cold temps that are forecasted as I'm not a good cold weather runner. In fact, I don't consider myself a runner at all...more of a "wogger." I walk awhile, then jog awhile, usually at a 3 min./2 min. pace. I use the training plan in the Marathoning for Mortals book, but had to modify it some as I was very sick from mid Sept to the third week of Oct. I did 7 miles yesterday on the indoor track at our gym. Felt a little sore yesterday afternoon, but I'm fine today.

I've been wondering about this meet! I went to the one last year and was wondering when it would be! Is anyone staying at the Contemporary or BLT? Maybe we could ride together. I will not have a car and will need to rely on Disney transportation. Look forward to seeing people there!

What a wonderful run! It felt good and was easy. Four miles on the TM. 12 minute pace. Done. Moving parts are moving well.

Now I'm looking at gadgets, contemplating temperatures and thinking about breakfast. The final unknown is corral assignments. I'm sure someone has a pace/expected finish time breakdown from previous years. Would 2:45 get into F?

I keep adding to my packing list. I haven't been to WDW in several years and have lots to catch up on.
