We are about to book a 3 night Disney Cruise for next June. We are paying cash, not using points. Is there anything special or any perks on the cruise as a DVC member? If so, do you need to bring your card?

You get DVC lanyards and DVC pins, and DVC memory book.. should be in your room without even asking - should be in stateroom.. if not, go by DVC desk and ask.
There's always a DVC 'gathering' - could possibly win some stuff - like beach towel, bag, etc..
Also get DVC hats, etc if you go...
Worth the ~45 min if you're not doing anything

Thanks for letting us all know! :thumbsup2

Not sure what they do on the 3 day, but on 7 day cruises, DVC people who see you wearing your red DVC hat, give you a Disney pin. Each day on three different days it's a different pin and it's a lot of fun for everyone.

How they hand out pins actually depends on who the DVC reps on board are. We did back-to-back 7-day sailings last December. The first week they handed out the pins as you say, giving them to members who were wearing their red DVC hats. On the second week, however, they simply gave out a pin-of-the-day. You just had to stop by the DVC desk on Deck 4 Midship to pick up that day's pin. So it depends on how the reps on board choose to do it.

Also, the hats you receive are not always red. We have navy blue caps, royal blue visors and the red caps, all given out over the years at the member meet on board.

To the OP - They should know, automatically, that you are a DVC member even though you are paying cash. It doesn't hurt, however, to stop by the DVC desk (Deck 4 Midship) to make sure. With the shorter 3-day sailing you want to make sure you don't miss out on any member goodies!

Happy Sailing!

I booked my cruise with a travel agency. Would they still know I am a member?

Yes they will. If you want to double check just stop by the DVC desk on Deck 4 Midship after you board. We have booked our cruises several ways and they have always known that we are DVC members.

I am waiting on ROFR right now.....but I'm wondering if I pass and everything closes before I get on my cruise (Nov 15th), how will they know I am not a DVC member? Do I contact my travel agent?

They probably won't since you are such a new member. Stop by the DVC desk after you board to let them know. I am not sure if they have the technology to look up your membership so you'll want to have something with you (blue member card, paperwork, etc.) that shows you are a member.

Does anyone know what the incentives are right now for adding-on during the cruise?

Same as the ones you got in the mail

$500 gift card, 8 off 104 = 96, and 100 or 160 developer points to be used at SSR (or, in this 'special case', towards a cruise also if you want) [in my mind, no big deal]

Thanks...I was jumping the gun by asking since I'm not doing DCL until the Podcast Cruise in May! Maybe there will be some better incentives at that time. :goodvibes

So there are no cash discounts for DCL when you are a DVC member?

No. None. DCL does not offer very many discounts. When they do, they are almost always for the lowest category cabin (Cat. 12).

If you are booking DCL using points and cash combination, you will pay a price that is contracted between DVC and DCL each year. This cash price is somewhere in between their lowest price and their highest tier pricing. If you tend to book closer to cruise sail date, then you probably will find the price to be much better than what you would pay DCL direct for cash in full.

But if you want to book strictly cash (no DVC points) then the answer would be no. Hope this helps!! :)

Is using points for DCL a good value, we had been told it was better to pay cash

While I wouldn't say that a DCL cruise is a good value for your points I don't necessarily think it's a bad use of them either. We tend to pay cash for our cruises and use our points for DVC stays or the occasional II exchange. However, if using my points for the cruise was the only way I'd get to sail then I'd definitely do it. Personally, I don't want to be bothered with the hassle of renting out my points so that wouldn't be an option for me...although many choose to go that route.

It is a good value if using points makes it affordable/doable. We used points a long time ago for a 4 night cruise and were very glad that we did. We also rented out points to help pay for a cruise and swore I would never rent again and haven't. We've paid cash for our last three cruises but if the only way we could do it was by using points, we would have done it.
