random question, but my partner is thinking of coming with us on one of my upcoming trips, but he is on the large side, normal height but he's in 5xl clothes. Ride wise what will he be able to do and not to do considering his heavy build?

It would really depend how he carries his weight, I'm a big lady and I manage all the rides I care to ride, I've been told by fellow larger people that rides like crushes may be tight if you carry your weight on your middle, luckily I've never fancied it though x

oh ok, he's a big belly man :) I don't think we would do any of the major thrill rides as we will have our 5 year old and he wouldn't like the big rides, I think the most thrill ride we would do is BTM

I'm 5ft 5 and was a size 26 during our last visit (currently shrinking tho woop!)
And I rode BTM several times just fine, only concern you may have is the lap bar not going down as far' this made me nervous when I rode with my son, so I only did this once and he rode with my husband from then on, I'm sure your partner will be fine x x

I'm an 18-22 and got on everything just fine. :) I saw a very large man ride crush with minimal issues.

im that size too, but my partner is much bigger than me, me being a size 20 would fit into XL clothing but my partner is in size 5XL so at least twice the size of me.

Due to some health and medication issues, I have put on an extraordinary amount of weight over the last two years (almost 7 stones!). So what I could easily get on when we went for the first time in June 2012 was possibly a little more problematic in December 2013. We had been to Alton Towers in October 2013 and only just about fitted in a few of the rides there (Rita and Air being the worst). So I had this very much in mind on our recent visit as I knew we would also have lots of layers and thick coats on too - particularly as I didn't want to embarrass my DS and DD.

No problems with BTM, Space Mountain, RC Racer or Aerosmith RNR (phew!). I have to admit to giving Indy, orbitron and the cars ride in the studios a miss (not a problem as I am not that fussed on them). I have heard that room on those is a little tight. And then came Crush's coaster!!!!!!!............

We queued for approx 40 minutes and I was a little reassured as there was a 'larger than average' lady a few in front of us. But as we got into the area where you can watch loading, a man was struggling to have the bar brought in close enough to him. the CM called another over and the two of them were bouncing on it to try to close it to no avail. He then had to get off the ride in front of everyone and leave. I was then in an absolute panic that it would happen to me too. DH pointed out that the lady in front was going on, so stop worrying!

Same thing happened to her too. And she looked so very upset. I saw the CM give her a fastpass for another ride, but she was quite tearful. My heart was pounding as we got on and I pulled the bar towards me. It was pretty comfortable and I thought the red light would stay on and the CM have to do the jumping thing but no! Green light! Hurrah!!!!!

It is such a shame that the layout of Crush means that it is a very public humiliation if you have to get off, but I guess that is how it is. My weight gain has certainly altered my whole perspective on things which I barely gave a thought to before. I wasn't tiny then (size 14), but life sure is different now. :sad1:

I can't immediately think of any other rides which may cause your partner a problem - IASW, POTC, Buzz, TOT, Slinky, Parachute drop,Tram Tour, Phantom Manor, Snow White, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Lancelot, Star Tours etc should all be fine.

Dumbo and the teacups might be a little bit of a squueze though!

I hope that helps a bit.

I'm a 16 and found the cars ride a squeeze :(

Same as! I'm a 14 - 16 and orbitron was too much hassle too. I was eating my knees!

Your DP should be fine with lots of rides Ruth. If you wanted to test it and see how he fares out with the overhead restraints maybe RnRC would be an idea as its less public unlike Crush.

I am 6ft 2in and the last time I went to DLP I was around 18.5 stone - quite a big tummy, chunky legs, and a broad back, all made worse by layers and a puffer jacket for the Halloween weather! I got on every ride I tried, some were tighter than others, but no real issues. On RC Racer, they got me to take a particular seat on the front row that had a longer strap, which was a big help.

Over my trips to DLP I've ranged from a 14-22 and I carry all my weight around my middle.

I've managed to fit on every ride without any issue, but it doesn't stop me getting worried on each trip that this will be the time that I don't fit!

If your DH has serious concerns I would ask at city hall or the CM at the ride entrance, I think it's better to find out in advance rather than attempting the ride and being told no.

I'm sure it will all be fine though xx

Both me and DH are big - he's also very tall and carries his weight around the middle (no where else weirdly!). I'm 19-20 stone, 5'7", size (18-22 Depending on shops!) and at no point did either of us have any problems - in fact we didn't even think about it! The only ride we both had a slight issue with was Orbitron because it's quite long and thin. We both got in, both got out (NOT in the same one!!! lol With our lovely small DD), but the issue for us was mainly the awkwardness of the getting in and out rather than restraints (not many restraints in there!).

On the Carousel the CMs were getting a bit obsessive about the waist restraints and I could just about do it up, but DH couldn't, and to be fair, they didn't ask him to try - they could see he wasn't going to fall off!!! lol

DD sat by DH on BTM, and the restraint was no where near her, but other than doing that differently in the future, no other problems!

(Haven't done Crush so can't comment)

But it's interesting that I really hadn't even considered that we might not fit on rides there..... maybe it's the nature of the place!

We've just gotten back - and I'm a pooh sized person, size 20-22 and carry it all around my chest and tummy!

BTM is a lap bar, so if you are considerably smaller than your OH you may not feel as secure, but you'll have no problems fitting.

RC Racer, Aerosmith and Space Mountain have individual restraints, and are all really generous - no problems, and in fact tons of room to spare.

The only ride I felt really uncomfortable on was Crush's. But, I do think it depends where you carry your weight, as rather than it being a harness over your shoulders, its like an individual bar that pulls towards you, cushioning your tummy. Like other posters, we saw people being escorted off Crushes who couldn't fit, and I was a big ball of panic by the time I came to get on - but all was okay! If he carries his weight around his tummy, he may not be comfortable, but it really really really does depend on his body shape. ALSO! Before I forget - Crushes kinda cups your butt, so if he's got a booty that would put Beyonce to shame, again, may not be the most comfortable ride!

I agree with everything that's been said about Oribitron.... I could fit, but I wasn't exactly comfy and it's sort of awkward to get out of if you're on the big-ish side.

And, the tea cups - but only because the cups are quite small. We could still fit me, a 16 year old, 12 year old and a 9 year old in last time - but knees were knocking together!

All in all, I find Disney much much more accommodating than UK theme parks like Alton Towers - which tend to have tiiiiiny restraints!

Tell him not to worry - there are so many things to enjoy, and so few rides will be an issue due to his body size/shape. I know it's easy to worry, I panic every time we go to Disney even though I know I'll fit, but as soon as you get there and go on your first ride all the anxiety melts away - he will have an amazing time!

Oh yes - both tea cups and the cars ride in Studios are a bit small - definite knees knocking or being a bit tight, but that's more height than weight related!

On RC Racer, they got me to take a particular seat on the front row that had a longer strap, which was a big help.

Similar size, on RC Racer in December, I had to take my puffer jacket off to get the belt done up and ride in just a t-shirt (temperature was about 0c)
