Doing my part to help the pigeons of NYC

Yesterday, I was walking down Queens Boulevard (an 8 lane "local" street, also dubbed the "Boulevard of Death") and saw two pigeons sitting in the gutter pecking at some bread. Any car trying to park along the curb would have squished them. So, me being the concerned citizen moved their bread and told them to get on the sidewalk before they got hurt. Last I saw, they were sitting on the sidewalk. :thumbsup2

I have also been known to escort squirrels across the street if I think the traffic is heavy and cars won't see them. :)

I just know somewhere there's a padded cell with my name on it!!!

I don't think I'd escort a squirrel- the ones around here are pretty good at avoiding traffic (the deer and groundhogs aren't so good at it, apparently.)

But have you ever saved a chicken?

I live in a typical suburban town- not farmland by a long shot. But my friend has a chicken that thinks it's a dog (except she hasn't figured out how to housetrain it yet.)

Last week I was driving home and there was Chicken in the middle of the busy intersection, holding up traffic in four directions. I put the car in park, picked her up, and gently placed her back in her fenced yard.

Life in the suburbs returned to normal :thumbsup2 .

Did you escort all these little critters to Forest Park? :)

When we go to the park to feed the ducks, I try to scare off some of the geese after a while. The little ducks are in the back and the geese are being pigs and eating everything. The little ducks get hungry too! The last time we went, DD, (20 months) had a piece of bread that she was munching on instead of throwing it for the ducks, this big goose tried to take it from her hands! We went into Nascar mode and chased the goose in her stroller. :rotfl:

I try to bring something back from lunch for the squirrels at work, even if it is just a piece of bread, I would have moved the bread for the pigeons too.

I remember the Belmont stop in Chicago, there was a ledge to the west of the stop COVERED in Piegeon crap. They are like flying rats, they're everywhere! And why do they CRAP so much! I say if they're too dumb to get out of the road they deserve their fate.

Spring is here, a-sup-puh-ring is here
Life is skittles...

But there's one thing that makes spring
complete for me...

All the world seems in tune
on a spring afternoon...

The sun's shining bright
Ev'rything seems all right...

We've gained notoriety...

They call it impiety
and lack of propriety...

But it's not against any religion...

So if Sunday you're free
why don't you come with me...

...a squirrel or two...

It just takes a smidgen...

I don't know about pigeons or squirrels (how do you escort one of those across the road anyway?). However, I have definately been known to pull over on the side of the road to escort a pokey little turtle. Those poor little guys no matter how fast they go, they just aren't fast enough!!

My husband saves Turtles all the time. I asked him how do you find all these Turtles? He said "I look for them"

Looks like this thread has become fodder for the Tag Fairy (I was afraid I'd get tagged with that chicken story :rotfl2: .)

I have "escorted" or "relocated" several turtles and once a field mouse.
