We are thinking about going March 22-26th! Myself and 4 kids ages 16-6. I would not have a hotel cost but I have the rest of it. I will be driving so that will be cheap! What are some ways I can save money to go?

My number 1 suggestion is to pack your own snacks/drinks. You can save a ton on that alone.

???

I've spread out the purchase of park hoppers, I'd buy one 2 months prior to the trip, another 1 one month out, and the 3rd right before we leave. I also buy a Disney Gift Card when I have a bit of extra money ~ I use them to buy most of our food in the parks.

Order tap water with your meals instead of soda. And split meals when possible. DH and I often split meals which is usually enough for the 2 of us but even if we end up buying a snack later it's still cheaper.

We've been known to take Lunchables into the park. That'll make for a cheap lunch. My kids are allowed to buy only one souvenier of a predetermined spending limit. The rule is that the last day is the day that we shop for those souvenier's. That keeps them off my back until the last day. And avoids the overspending as they find things later that they want more. Sharing is a great way to stretch your meal money. My wife and I did that when we ate at Blue Bayou. (of course there, there is a split plate fee.)

BTW, I've seen 3 day park hoppers at Safeway for only $149. that's a pretty good savings.

Some good ideas here. Since we have AP we go alot here are some things we do are (some already mentioned):

1. Bring in our own snacks and beverages. I usually carry in my own soda cup (styrofoam works best) and a few cans of Diet Coke in a my bag. When we eat at counter service I just get a cup of ice and use that for my soda. My DD10 doesn't get a beverage with her meal unless she gets a kid's meal. Otherwise she gets water and I carry Crystal Light flavor tubes. She loves those. She also carries her own water bottle, on a strap, and puts flavor in that as well.

2. Another thing we did recently in the summer was when we got cups of ice at Schmoozies in DCA we noticed the ice was pretty ground up. DD10 added a lemonade tube and a little water and it was like having a sour lemon slushie. She loves it. :goodvibes

3. Besides getting free water and ice at counter service locations you can also get free hot water at those equipped. On cooler days and evenings I bring our own tea bags and make hot tea. Saves $2.79. I read you can also get coffee refills by showing your receipt from the same day. Hot chocolate work too. I suppose you could even add instant soup (I think they still make it don't they?)

4. Share-we frequently share meals. Just like at WDW some of the meals at DLR CS are quite large. Some of our favorite shares are: Pasta at Pizza Port or Plaza Inn; Fried Chicken at Plaza Inn; Pizzetta Salad at WTC; and Asian Chicken Salad at Pizza Port. One of our favorite CS locations is Water Water Snacks in the GC. A nice break from the day and just a little bit better food. The nachos there are totally shareable. I don't like cheese sauce so I order mine without. Only shredded cheese. Sour Cream and Guacamole on the side. Then when it's delivered (yes the bring to your table) I pop it in the microwave and melt the cheese. I've also seen parents use the microwave for warming up their own items as well.

5. Go off property to eat. Many times we stop on our way to, or from, DLR to eat. Del Taco is one of our favorite choices. Saves tons of money and better food than some of the CS choices.

6. Souvenirs-we don't buy many at DLR but sometimes do at WDW. Give each child a certain amount of money they can spend on their own souvenirs. It's amazing when they ask for something and you say "you can use your own money" how quickly they change their minds.

7. If you plan on riding Grizzle Rapids and don't want to get soaked bring your own ponchos. Much cheaper than buying them in the park and after using them you can just through them away. You can usually get them for about $1 all over. When we go to WDW I have a Ziploc that I carry our ponchos in. Keeps my bag insides dry and then I can reuse them.

8. Speaking of GGR, they have free lockers (1st 2 hours) located just to the left of the ride entrance. Keeps all your stuff nice and dry.

9. When we stay at WDW (on property) we have our breakfast in the room everyday. We buy a cheap toaster and use it for toast, bagels, poptarts, etc. We also have cereal, PB& J, fruit, etc. Saves alot of money by not having to eat breakfast out and really saves on time as well. Since you are driving bring along an ice chest as well. If you'll be parking at DLR it's nice to come back to the car after along day and have some ice cold drinks waiting.

That's it for now, if i think of more ideas I'll post them. Have fun!

"I would not have a hotel cost but I have the rest of it.". I think she means she has saved up $ for everything, except hotel accommodations.

If you are staying at a hotel that has a refrigerator, you can pick up groceries on your way, to stock it. Get drinks, microwave popcorn, and frozen waffles (if there's a toaster).

Where do you plan on staying?

I forgot to add one more thing: Ordering pizza from PH or anyplace that delivers will save you lots of $$. Especially, with a large group like yours.

Don't forget about volunteering to get a disney day free.

We always eat breakfast outside of the parks, whether it is free continental, eating food in the room or stopping for something quick at McDonald's.

Bring in more snacks than you think your family will eat, it will stop you from impulse buying snacks when it is not meal time.

We did not eat at any sit down places last time we went, counter service only. No tips and we get in and out faster!

Bring in water bottles and refill them with water in the parks. We brought crystal light packets to put in our water as well. We froze Capri Suns and they stayed cool and ready to drink about mid-day.

Buy souvenirs ahead of time! We did not buy a single thing besides Mickey Ears for the kids last time. I got shirts online on Disneyshopping.com.

Don't eat in the park. Walk across the street to Harbor and eat at Mc Donalds or Quiznos or something. Don't buy "stuff" in the park bring in your own snacks and drinks. If you don't buy stuff then what are your costs? Just the admission price. It can be very cheap if you try. Not sure how budget you want to go.

Bringing snacks and water into the parks are a great idea, but I hate it when my water gets hot, not nearly as refreshing. So I will ask for a cup of ice and add my water to it. That way I'll have cold water that is much cheaper than $2.75 a bottle.
Also, there's a Quiznos's and McDonalds right across from the park. A lunch from there is much cheaper than in the park, and they often have coupons for 10%. Not a ton but every little bit helps! When looking for a cheap meal inside the park, I love BEngal BBQ. So good and the prices can't be beat. i usually bring in some grapes or buy them from the fruit stand to go with the meat sticks, but that's because I'm not a big fan of the veggies they serve there. When I'm with my whole family, we will buy sourdough bread in California Adventure and save it to eat here for dinner with the meat sticks. That way, we pay $7 for an entire loaf of bread instead of $4 for 3 breadsticks.

These are awesome tips! I am definitely writing a lot of them down!

Arestravel.com also has cheaper Disney tickets than buying them on the DLR site.

That is brilliant--I'd love to give that a try sometime!

To keep our water cold we freeze partially filled bottles the night before so there is a solid piece of ice inside the bottle. Then we just fill it up with water in the morning and it stays cold for a long time. But obviously this wouldn't work for people staying in hotels with no access to a freezer.

I do this too, but mostly because I'm rather particular about my tea. I bring in loose Whittard of Chelsea, a tea ball and some raw honey. Makes an excellent early afternoon pick-me-up :-).

okay so far I have researched this!

I am going to get 4 days passes at the kids price! Great deal I believe!

We are trying to figure out hotels across from disneyland that is walking distance. Hopefully cheap! We have that part covered financially! Any suggestions!

Also we are thinking about traveling to legoland any deals there?
