Yesterday I did some major trimming of our orange tree. I've watched the guys work the grove across the street and do picking with ladders leaning against the tree so I figured... I can do that.
What I didn't do was wear long sleeves. By the time I got through, my arms and legs were hurting a bit but I only took a quick look and didn't see much of a problem. It wasn't until my son asked me what had happened that I looked in a mirror to see what he was talking about. GEEZ! So now I'm nervous about going out because who knows what people will think about these nasty looking scratches.
Honestly, I got them cutting back an orange tree. Reminds me of the "I got this black eye walking into a door" number.
Bottom line, wear long pants and long sleeves pruning these trees. They have nasty thorn like growths on the branches that can measure several inches long. Oh and did I mention how wonderful citrus oil feels on an open cut?
I'm not sure how good this photo is but here ya go.
