Dog Shampoo

I was at my hair stylist and they sell Paul Mitchell dog shampoo! I was shocked and did a double take, but it definitely was Paul Mitchell. I didn't buy it, but I am thinking about it. I love the smell of PM products for people, so I would think the pet shampoos would have a good smell. I think it cost around $9 for a bottle which is a bit pricey, but I still think I might try it.
.

Actually, several years ago we had a dog that we used Paul Mitchell people shampoo on. (I'm sure they didn't make dog shampoo back then). She had really sensitive skin, and all dog shampoos made her itchy or flakely, but her skin was great with Paul Mitchell. Maybe other people were doing it to, and that's why they came out with a dog shampoo!! For our dog now, we use Tropiclean pet shampoos. They come in several scents, such as Papaya and Berry. She always smells really good after a bath!

Coat Handler. Pricey but lasts a long time. Comes full strength and you dilute with water.

Off topic...
I found that buying good dog food makes such a difference.

I have a little dog so it's not very expensive to feed him. We use Fromm's typically but also Wellness, Eagle Pack, etc.

My dog before this one had sooo many ear infections and skin allergies and I feel terrible that I didn't do the research BEFORE it was too late [liver cancer].

Here's a dog food rater if you want to check out your food.

Vet recommended Hylite dog shampoo. We buy it from PetSmart, not the Vet. I don't think he was making a sale?
The Very Best thing that I've found that keeps our Lab/Dalmation mix dog is Lambert Kay Dog Cologne DROPS. The spray is ok, but nothing works better than the drops!!!!! The drops get into there skin, just like perfume does us. I like "Baby Fresh" smell, and she smells really good.
When ever she comes inside I will wipe her feet off with a towel, and give her a couple small drops and she smells like a fresh baby.
I'm really missing it right now. PetSmart stopped carrying the drops, but do have the spary. Last night I ordered 8 bottles and hopefully they will get here soon.
Another thing that I just found out that works pretty good is Dryer Sheets. My MIL turned me on to this. She watched our dog last week and that's what she used. Whenever the dog would come inside, she would wipe her down with Dryer Sheets. So when I got home, with no Dog Cologne, I used Downy Dryer Sheets on her and it did work. Infact, the dog liked being rubbed down.
I've had friends say that our house does not smell like dogs!!! I know peoples houses who do, so I highly recommend Lambert Kay Dog cologne drops!!!!

I use different things for a good bath in the tub every few weeks, but for in between baths I use "Pet Head" waterless shampoo its like the Bed Head brand but for dogs. It smells so good! I recommend it. :goodvibes I believe I got it at Pet Smart or a similar store.

Just so you know, dog shampoos are ph balanced for dogs-baby shampoo and such is not. If it works for you though, who's to say? LambertKay(the same as the cologne drops) have an oatmeal shampoo that has baking soda in it and smells like fresh laundry-I LOVE it! You can buy it at the PetSomethings!:thumbsup2 Good luck!

Interesting thread. We have a new dog that's almost a year old and she's become a digger. Because of all the digging, we're having to bathe her a lot more often to get all the mud off and I'd love to find something really gentle to her skin.

Our little dog is the size of a loaf of bread - and gets lots of baths because she's soooo naughty. I've been using trial sized shampoos from all our vactions. And I have better luck with those than some of the dog shampoos which made her coat too dry.

We have a Havanese too!!! They are great dogs!!! When you say what kind of dog you have, do you get "Hava- what?" quite a bit?

sorry to sidetrack....do you go to havaneseforum.com it's a very active board dedicated to our breed. They are almost more obsessed than the DISers!

adianmom...thanks for the ph info. Forgot to mention that!! I learned that on the havanese board.

AND...wanted to mention CONDITIONER is key so dog's coats don't get too dry.....shampoo and condition just like humans!! Dog conditioner preferably.

we use Lambert Kay Baking Oatmeal and Baking Soda shampoo. It is the only thing I sell other then script shampoo.
If you wanna try it I will send you a bottle for free that is how sure I am of it ! Just Pm me your address . I dont own the company and of course the chance of you living near where I work is slim to none so please dont think I am offering so I can get your bussiness LOL I just love the shampoo. My Rottie smells very nice pretty much all the time because of it . Clients know when grooming has used something else on thier pets ;)

I didn't know it existed. I will have to check it out. Maggie just turned 7 and we haven't been as active in looking at Havanese stuff as we were when she was younger and before my DD came along (We refer to them as the furry child and the non-furry child).

I have 2 american eskimoes. The breeder recommended using Suave's Green Apple Shampoo, that's what she uses on her show dogs. I've used it, but I like how baby shampoo washes out of their fur. I give each dog couple of teaspoons of olive oil on their food and no more dry skin.

I just wanted to thank Mad4Mickey publicly for her generosity and willingness to share the Lambert Kay Baking Oatmeal and Baking Soda shampoo. I received mine in the mail today and wanted to acknowledge her kindness, generosity, and obvious love for dogs! My little Mopsy will be getting a bath tomorrow and I'll be sure to let you all know about the shampoo. Thanks again to Mad4Mickey for being so generous!:thumbsup2

But thanks so much for the kind words!

I just wanted to share with everyone about the Lambert Kay Baking Oatmeal and Baking Soda shampoo that Mad4Mickey sent for me to try. It was fabulous and I am sold. I bathed my little Mopsy (she looks just like a mop) with it over the weekend and her coat was so soft and she smelled wonderful. I can also say that over the past two days I have noticed that she doesn't scratch near as much as she did in the past. I have a feeling that it's because the shampoo was really good for her skin. Thanks again, Mad4Mickey! I highly recommend the shampoo!

I would like to know where to purchase the Lambert Kay oatmeal and baking soda for my yorkie, who is always scratching. Even got medicated stuff from the Vet with not much luck. Hoping this may do the trick.

If anyone has tried it, I would like to know how it smells.

This is all we use on our little peke. We love it!

When you change shampoos with an animal, rub a small bit on a part of their body before you wash their whole body in the shampoo. Watch that spot for a couple of days before you give your animal a bath. Animals have allergies to shampoos. (I only know this after a hefty vet bill!)
