We are bringing home a puppy (pomeranian, named Disney of course) tomorrow. When I go to the Fort, do I have to tell them ahead of time that I have a pet or can I just pay the fee when I get there?

Dan

You should probably tell them to put "Pet" on your reservation so you will be put in a pet loop, although they will put somewhere a pet is allowed anyhow. There is a $ 5.00 charge per day..

I applaud all you pet owners that actually let Disney know you have a pet with you. Based on my 1 month stay in August, it appears there are a large number of people that do not. We were in a non pet loop (1100) and there were pets in our loop the whole time... even when there were only 4 sites occupied. Our friends had their dog with them and asked about staying in the 1300 loop but were told it was a non pet loop, yet every time we "looped" through on the golf cart, we saw many dogs.

I'm guessing people don't say they have pets so they can avoid the extra charge, but it's frustrating when your friends are told they can't stay in a loop, close to you, because its pet-free, yet you see 1/4 of the sites occupied by pets :rolleyes1

I would definitely call. We had our reservations for this past October for about a year, but only called in September to add on our 2 new puppies

In fact, we had planned on leaving them with their breeder if we couldn't get them into the fort.

It was not a problem at all. Apparetly there is always room for our 4 legged friends. But as the PP said, it's always nice to call first.

By the way, they did great on the whole trip...although they weren't tiny babies...they were 16 and 18 weeks when we were down there.

I don't think that most campers are being "CHEAP" or would tell Disney that they didn't have a pet when they did. The problem is Disney does not ask you when making resies or checking in.

Quotes are from the Disney's official web site for Fort Wilderness http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/campsites-at-fort-wilderness-resort/

Pets

Since pets like to go on vacation too, pet-friendly campsites are available. Pets are not permitted in tents or vehicles without air-conditioning.

Campsite Guests with pet privileges may take their dogs to play in the off-leash Waggin' Trails Dog Park, enjoy a variety of on-leash pet walks or treat them to day or overnight kennel care while their humans visit the Theme Parks, Water Parks or other destinations throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

Nowhere does it says anything about an added charge for your pet, that you should notify them you have a pet or you need a pet loop. None of the other Campgrounds across the country I have stayed in charged me for my pet. If this was my first time at Fort Wilderness How would I know about pet loops and pet charges ? It is not on Disney's Fort Wilderness web site and the CM at the check in gate does not say anything when he can see my dog and comes around to the door to pet Him.

When I called yesterday afternoon for a reservation The CM never asked if I have a pet. I know to tell the CM that I do.

When you make a reservation on the INTERNET there are no questions to answer about if you have a pet. There is a small comment box you could type into, "you have a pet" if you knew to do so. That box is still not working today and has not been working at least since August of this year

Also there are no guaranteed pet free loops. Disney will not turn you away because you have a pet and all of the pet loops are full. They will put you in any loop they can.

Below are the only other 2 places it mentions pet on the Fort wilderness site
Campsite Amenities

Private and fully landscaped
Water
Electricity
Cable
High-speed Internet Access (additional fee)
Picnic Table
Charcoal grill
All campsites, other than Tent/Pop-Up, provide sewer
Pets allowed in select Premium, Preferred and Full Hook-Up campsite loops

Kennel

Because Guests' four-legged family friends are allowed to stay at designated campsites, Disney has contracted with Best Friends Pet Care to provide kennel and care services.
Day and overnight rates vary by pet type (dog, cat and small animal) and include 2 potty walks and 2 feedings per day).
Special services include cuddle time, extra walks, medication administration and ice cream breaks (additional fees apply).
Proof of current vaccinations is required. Pets under 8 weeks of age and wildlife and exotic species are not allowed.
For inquiries or to make a reservation, call (407) 824-2735.

They try to keep pets in a certain area and other areas pet free. The web site has some information about pets http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/campsites-at-fort-wilderness-resort/
They can revoke your pet privalage. If you do not inform them of a pet and you get placed in a "non" pet loop and the person in the camper next to you is alerrgic ( or is a jerk) and calls and complains; they can remove you from that location and if no other pet freindly areas are avalible then you have to either leave the camp grounds or take your dog to the kennel. I called a CM freind of mine that has worked at the FW and asked what would happen.

When I was booking for Halloween for next year each time I called I WAS asked if I had a pet. I always said no so I do not know what would be said after that but I WAS asked each time and I called every day for 2 weeks before getting a site.

I don't know, Jeff, I think they may be cheap. Although my wife says I am pretty cheap and I always tell Disney when we are bringing the pooch with us. I prefer to think of myself as thrifty, or just careful with money. My brother, on the other hand, is cheap. That guy has the first buck he ever made. He'll squeeze a nickel until it cries. When we were kids, he used to "split" the cost of Christmas gifts to our parents - he would try to get me to pay for the gift, and he would cover the sales tax. What a guy. What were we talking about, anyway? Hey, who likes beer!

The correct answer is to tell them ahead of time so they can put you in a barking loop with all the other pet owners ... J/K on the barking loop, but serious on the letting them know.

Larry

We always let them know ahead of time that we have dogs. I book on-line, but most of the time I can't find where we enter that info. So, after I book I call about 2 months ahead of time to confirm and tell them we will have dogs. We typically stay in Loop 300, the only Preferred Pet Loop of its kind now so we want to make sure we get in. If we are splurging and stay in a Premium Loop we usually try for 500 as it is also close to the dog park. As much money as we spend on our two "fur kids" $5.00 a day isn't even a consideration for us.

My last trip I put poochy up at Camp Bow Wow for 38 bucks a day. 5 Bucks a day is a bargain.

Why would someone who calls and complains be the jerk, the jerk would be the one with the barking dog thats not in the barking dog loop. L&G's Dad.

I could not agree more!

I love animals, but unfortunately my son is allergic to just about ALL of them - especially dogs. It put in BOLD letters that he is allergic and request a NON pet loop every time we go, but so many people never confess to having a dog with them and then complain that they prefer to be in the non-pet loops when everything else is gone.

Of course, most pet owners are very considerate, but it is the few that ruin it for the many. The only thing worse in my mind is the people who walk their dogs in the non-pet loops and then don't even bother to clean up after them.

I must agree that a big "pet" peeve of mine is people who don't pick up their dog's poop. I always have poop bags with me whenever I have the dogs out. Sometimes I pull clothes out of the dryer with a poop bag still in the pocket. I've been lots of places in and out of FW and have picked up other people's dog's poop. It makes it hard on everybody when some don't pick up.

I too always have bags in my pocket. But last time I was at the fort it was dark and I forgot my flashlight.I left my husband near the poop walked back a few site where people were out side and asked to borrow a flashlight and went back and picked up poop.

Well lets see,
there are Fred Heads, Parrot Heads, Cheese Heads, Dead Heads,,so would that make those of us who clean up after our pets Poop Heads ? :rotfl2:

Here too! :)
We always have bags with us - with (3) 30-40 lb dogs I buy them by the case. :lmao:

And there's really no excuse for people not picking up after their dogs, no matter how big or small. Definitely does ruin it for the rest of us. Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised during our stay at the Fort in November. I don't think I found one incident of "leftover" poop on the 300 dog walk or in the dog park. And we were there every day for 3 weeks - and the dog park was definitely well used! :thumbsup2

would that make those of us who clean up after our pets Poop Heads ? :rotfl2:

That's generally DH's department at the campsite, and he is definitely a poop head. :lmao:

Well, I guess I am a jerk. I've seen people let their dogs sleep on the tops of the picnic tables. I have seen dog owners let their dogs deficate on vacant camp sites. I have had barking dogs wake me up at 6:30 in the morning. I have seen dogs left in a 200,000 dollar motor home bark all day. I complain and I do not waste time talking to the pet owner. They know what is going on. As my vet told me, they are too lazy to train their animals.
