Dog friendly places in the Universal/Disney area?

We're bringing our GSD with us on our Spring vacation & staying at the HRH. I found a Web site listing some dog friendly outdoor restaurants but I'm not familiar with how close they are to the HRH (I'll check MapQuest later).

Do any of you know of places that are friendly to well behaved large dogs? I'm thinking about both shopping areas and restaurants in that area. Thanks!

Can you clarify for me please what GSD means? The HRH is hard rock hotel I think and if so that makes me wonder are you saying the hard rock hotel is dog friendly? If I missed what you are say it seems that you are bringing your dogs with you on vacation so where are they going to stay? Someone I know checked into the new Disney Area dog kennels and she was not impressed with some of the communication and customer service she has experienced so far and is not so sure she would let her dogs stay there based on that- and to be honest I am with her on that. I am also curious as to what kind of response you get here lol.

I was wondering what GSD was too.

The Universal hotels are pet friendly and on the budget side, LaQuinta is. I have no idea which restaurants or stores are the same way though. In our area, you can take dogs to places that have outdoor patios where you can dine. It might be the same in the Orlando area?

I'm not the OP but GSD is the acronym for German Shepherd Dog. :)

As the poster below stated, it does mean German shepherd dog. The Hard Rock (all Lowes hotels) allow dogs, so he'll stay in our room while we're in the parks. I know there are some outdoor restaurants that allow dogs, so I was wondering if anyone on here knows of any nearby. Dogs are often allowed in outdoor shopping areas as well.

I won't kennel him overnight again so he comes with me.:) I may put him in the kennel for the day if we visit Disney, though, as long as it isn't one of those teeny tiny cages.

I was wondering how the hotel room is cleaned if you leave the pets there each day? I've always been curious about that.

They give you a special sign for the door to alert housekeeping. I'll just ask for no housekeeping for the week, though, since I prefer to do my own cleaning. I'll just swap out the towels & trash.

Hi, everyone! We just left our little guys at the new Best Friends kennels on Bonnet Creek Parkway, and they were GREAT!!! :banana:It was the first time we've traveled with our pets, and they were a little shaken from the plane ride, but the good folks at Best Friends took incredible care of them! It was so nice to know that they were being pampered while we were off riding coasters and running around the parks. :yay: And I have to tell you, I called there every day and they always gave me the best updates with very specific info.
We did spend 2 days at Universal, and I didn't see many dog places around there. I was glad they were where they were.
I was never happy with the options back home, but heard good things about Best Friends. (they have a great website, and even have a Facebook page with nice pix) We will DEFINITELY use them again when we go back in April:woohoo:
Have fun, everyone, and take care of your special critters in your home!:flower3:

Seeing that employees of the Disney kennel are signing up on the DIS to hype their business is making me a little uneasy about ever taking my little one there..

But back to the subject at hand. OP, I'm assuming you will have a car with you? If so, you can check out Winter Park (head east on I-4). The main hubbub has stores and restaurants that allow pets. Just make sure you check out a calendar of events because we showed up on a weekend in March and it was their art festival weekend and all we could do was stand on the corner with other dog owners who had no idea.
