Anyone have a window dog door? We are thinking about getting one for our two Bostons. We just spent a small fortune on a new back door and can't stand the thought of cutting into that door!

Our dog door goes through the wall, not the door. We have glass panels on the door and a screen door so having one through the door wouldn't work.

It was super easy to install. We just cut through the wall and the unit has 4 long screws that join the outside and inside panel. We put insulation around the unit in the wall and added a small piece of carpet on the floor of the tunnel because that was really slippery for our dog. It took about a day for her to get used to using it. It is GREAT!!

I love the idea!

We have a doggie door in our screen door which our dog loves, under $300 from Lowes or Home Depot. I wouldn't put the hole in my main door either for the same reason.

My only thought on the door going directly into the house is whether or not the opening would be protected from the elements at all? When my main door is open and its just the screen door the super cold air really whips in and the heat in summer does too. So during severe weather months I open the main house door and close it as needed. But if you're in a moderate climate or like your temperatures it probably wouldn't matter at all.

Our door has a double flap system, which is recommending for those of us in a northern climate. It isn't perfect but it isn't bad either. When it gets REALLY cold at night the dog isn't going out anyway so we put the security door on and that blocks out the rest of the cold. If you were in a mild climate you could get away with a single door option.

Our new storm door, just installed, has a doggie door in it from the factory! It is the best!
I would love a door in the wall, but DH said no way.

We have one and it works great since we have a couple of low windows; we had to add a step for one of our older dogs but the younger ones don't need it.

This is close to what we have; it has to be cut on the ends to fit exactly in the window; I used self drilling screw to get it in and that worked great. I also did a bit extra insulation.

We've had this several years and not sure exactly where I bought it now.

Janette...That's what we are looking at. I don't want to cut a whole in the wall or the door. Don't really want to get a storm door for the back either. The dogs are in their kennel all day so I'm not too concerned about the weather. It would only open when we are home.

I've only found a couple of places online to get the window doors so that's why I thought I'd ask on here! My secretary has one and loves it. I actually had never heard of window doors until she mentioned it.

we put ours in the screen door as well, so we can close the security door at night, or whenever. the dogs love it...

Ours is installed at the end of our sliding glass door so I'm assuming it would work the same way a window one would work. The insert panel is approx 12 inches wide and it goes from floor to ceiling and pretty much looks like it is part of the glass door. It came with a mechanism to install to lock the slider to it but it was cheezy so we did not install it and we have a bar we put in the bottom of the slider so that the slider cannot be opened from the outside.

We live in a mild climate but I can feel the draft from it (where it butts up to the slider) even though we installed the insulating strips around it. However, I like the look of it and the fact that we can remove it without having to do any sort of structural repair to the house.
