Dog breeds? Our dog just passed away

TexasErin-

I share the grief of your loss.

When I had to put my best friend to sleep, I received a sympathy card from the staff at the vets office with this verse...

"We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than
our own live within a fragile circle,
easily and often breached.

Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we still would live no other way.

We cherish memory as the only certain
immortality, never fully understanding
the necessary plan...."

"The Once Again Prince" Irving Townsend

If you have ever seen the television show "Crossing Over", with John Edward, you know that he commonly mentions pets waiting for us on the other side...

The unconditional love that a dog gives to his family, is worth the pain of his passing.

There is a new friend waiting for you with a lot to give, in trade for a home...

:grouphug: So sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. Our dog is 12 1/2 so we don't know how much longer we'll have him. He doesn't show any problems except he's getting lumpy! (Cysts and wart type things). Still has great energy and appetite. He is a mixed St. Bernard/Shepard that we adopted from a shelter. He was an adult (1 1/2 y.o.) when we got him. He is absolutely the best. All he ever wanted was a family and kids and he got it and is still grateful! He had been adopted out and returned 3 times before we got him, because he had loads of energy. We live in an area where he can run and that was the answer. Another vote here for adopting from a pound or shelter!!! He has been (and still is) very healthy. Never been to the vet for illness - just carelessness! - got kicked by a pony he cornered in a stall!

We had also previously done a purebred rescue adoption of an Irish Setter. That was fine, but our current dog is even better, I think because he is a mixed breed.

Good luck with your decision, but please consider adopting an abandoned, neglected or unwanted dog!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved furbaby.

Just wanted to tell you I am so sorry to hear about your dog. One of my dog's is 15 years old and in poor health. I know it is only a matter of time.......I am going to be very, very upset when that day comes. My pets are like family members. Have you ever read the rainbow bridge poem? Do a search for it on the internet...it is wonderful. I send it to everyone when their pet passes on.

My sincere sympathies for the loss of your beloved Misty.

I have a Red Chow and she is my third. My 2 others both passed away at the age of 15 and this one is approx 9 (I found her).

Why not another Chow? As already mentioned..all purebreads have their weaknesses.

Better days ahead to you all...
