Dog Breeds - Most Popular vs Least Popular

Tazz is #13 on the list! :flower: I didn't know that when we fell in love with him at the shelter last Sept. :cloud9: Somehow, he doesn't look like the teeny little Poms that I've seen in dog shows.

This was taken the other day. We trimmed his coat down for the summer. He was so hot, he would just pant all the time. He seems much happier with the shorter hair for now. :teeth:

Here's a fun picture of Tazz. He loves to be in the middle of whatever anyone in the family is doing. He has got to be the most animated dog you'd ever want to meet.

We have two Airedale Terriers, ages 8.5 and 7. And a we have a 1.5 year old Miniature Schnauzer named Rudy. We're big, big fans of all animals and would probably have 50 if we could. Three keeps us pretty busy.

Airedales are awesome dogs. They're the largest breed of terriers and do not shed. They're bright, yet stubborn and incredibly loyal. My male has one of the great traits that most male Airedales have...he's a total goofball. Our female is more serious and independent, but still very sweet. While our male is wonderful with children, our female needs to be watched closely with younger children. We don't have any kids, if we did, ultimately it could have been a problem. Airedales need to be groomed every 8 weeks or so and need to be brushed every few days. They also need to be walked daily or have a fenced in yard because they like to run...especially when they're younger.

The miniature schnauzer is a total blast. He's just brimming over with personality. This is our first "little dog" and well, we're just sold on this breed. While I love the Airedales to pieces, I must say that our Miniature Schnauzer is definitely brighter overall...., he's just much, much quicker to learn. I work with animals for a living and he's actually one of the brightest dogs I've ever seen. He knows so many tricks now that he could literally be a circus dog. He's quite attached to my DH and I and has a little pillow on the couch between us that is his spot. Again, he's a non-shedder, but does need to be groomed about every 8 weeks and I brush him every two or three days so that he doesn't get any tangles or mats.

I'd definitely recommend either one of these breeds to anyone....great dogs.

We have a Curly Coated Retriever, Henry.

I have always had dogs, both growing up and as an adult. Henry is by far the best puppy I have ever had. They are tremendously loyal and are great family dogs. However, the do shed huge amounts. Every day I see tumbleweeds rolling across my hardwood floor.

You can't really see from his picture, but he has very tight curls, like he's had a perm. He's almost 8 and starting to get a little gray in the face (although he still acts like a puppy!)

We have a rescued pug who is 9 years old and quite a character. She fits right in with our cats and is just as lazy as they are. She sits and watches tv with us and often barks at things she sees -- her favorites are the dog shows and anything with a herd of things moving at once. She HATES horses and can tell them from other types of animals on the tv -- she'll jump up and run at the tv barking like crazy at them! She does bark a lot but not at night or when we leave or anything inappropriate.

HOly cow, it's like you live in our house. :) Scrump is the same exact way - we can't watch Animal Planet ... or any commercial with dogs on TV... he goes RUNNING at the TV and barks at whatever is bothering him. And then usually he runs into the other room, as if he's chasing them.... and then he comes out all proud, like, "I scared them away!!" :) Such a clown!

I'm going to show your quote to my DH Crankyshank. I keep telling him how darn smart our Beagle, Emmadog is. He thinks she's the dumbest dog ever.
(That's 'cuz she loves ME the best! She's usually attached to my hip.)

I think we might have the one that breaks all of the Beagle rules. I let her out and don't have to watch her at all, she barely wanders off of the deck. She's such a "people dog" that she doesn't want to be alone. I think she's great!!

She might be so smart that she's playing dumb so she can get away with more ;)
My Peabody can run outside without being watched because he's a total momma's boy. He has been known to chase the cat from time to time, though.

We have had two Springer Spaniels. The first, our beloved Oscey, passed away two years ago. We still mourn him. We then adopted a liver colored female who is not half as bright and much messire. But we love her anyhow. They are great with kids and lovable

I think the reason most of the least popular are on the list is because they are just not widely known, not widely bred and extremely hard to come by.

I myself looked into Pharoah hounds. I would love to get one someday, however I could not even locate a breeder in my state, and the ones I found out of state charged an arm and a leg for their pups.

Wow!!

Thanks everybody. I go away for 2 days and come back to 6 pages of the cutest dogs! Forget my friend, I am going out and getting a pom, a pyr, a cavalier, a schnauzer, a beagle, etc.

I will be passing all this on to him. And BTW - he is very committed to finding a proper breeder. No pet shops or Back Yard Breeders for him.
