DH and I are trying to lower some our monthly bills, so he called Comcast to see if it was worth downgrading our current plan. We have triple play which includes telephone, internet, and cable. We were going to remove the phone, and just have cable and internet. But since we wanted to keep HBO, that kicked it back up to the price we're currently paying. So it's better for us to keep the triple play package.

Anyway, she put my DH on hold and came back to tell him that she could deduct $20 off our monthly bill and keep our triple play package with HBO & Starz! And she renewed our contract for a full 12 months with this deal.

If you're looking to save money on cable, it doesn't hurt to call and see if they can give you a discount like they did with us. We're very pleased to get a discount just from calling and inquiring!

I do this every Jan as our plan comes out of contract with Comcast. I was once paying $150 for the triple play and now I'm down to $99. Keep today's date in mind and call them when it's about 2 weeks prior to the 1 year so you can call and get another deal.

I did a similar thing with ATT for DSL, took it from $35 to $15 for 12 months.
It's not cable related, but we wanted to add a cell phone to our plan for my daughter and have been with ATT for a while. We had our own equipment, so no contract, but activation is $37! I called business care(I get a discount because of where I work) and said I don't want to pay that fee. They said ok and made notes on my acct so when I was in the store, the fee was waived! Another reason that it doesn't hurt to ask!

I did this a few months ago with WOW! and was able to get $20 off a month for the next year.
