Doesn't anyone PARK in their garages?

Why is it that none of the vacation homes let you park in the garage anymore? Are game rooms really that much more important than the security of having enclosed, private parking?

I can't believe that I'm having such a difficult time finding a home with a useable garage.

Has anyone found a 4 or 5 bedroom home with pool, spa and useable garage in the Splendid China area?

I would LOVE to know if you have stayed in one.

TIA!

:cheer2:

I moved from NY to Fl nearly 17 years ago and no, I do not park in my garage. In NY, I had an attic and basement, here I have nothing so my garage is my attic & basement. I take that back, I have about a 3ft x 3 ft usable area of my attic for storage since I have cathedral ceilings...:headache: My cars are in my driveway, all 4 of them, we just sold one.

Most homes have or are installing games rooms in the garages it is a big draw. That is why you are having such a hard time.

Good thread... parking in garages :lmao:

Seriously though we just don't have the crime problems some areas of the country do. Most residents of Florida rarely use their garage. Instead it becomes another living area and that's probably why most rental homes have become games rooms because it adds to the joy of renting a home.

Why worry about an earth poluting piece of machinery when you can enjoy the home and its amenities so much more? :cool2:

I think a lot of folks don't use the garage because they need it for storage. I use one half of mine for the car, the other half storage.

The problem with most garages-as-game-rooms is that the space is not covered by HVAC. You could put the best pool table in that money could buy, but I wouldn't spend time in it!

Depends on the time of year. From Oct to Mar it's fine.

That depends on when your are down. We spend a lot of time in the garage in Feb. Aug. not so much.

I own a 5-bed home in Emerald Island Resort with no game room. It's refreshing to see your post because I've been told by so many renting agents that I need to have a game room to attract guests. My house is 4-years old and has been renting very well without a game room. I figured it was just because of the other amenities but perhaps the lack of a game room is an amenity I didn't realize I had? :confused3

We stay in a villa without a game room because we love the house so much, but we can't use the garage because the UK owners store their vehicle in it, so even if you find a house without a game room in the garage, you may not be able to use the garage for your personal use anyhow.

I agree with the poster who says crime is not a huge issue down there. I guess the garage would be convenient if you wanted to leave your GPS or other valuables in the car, but I'm so used to taking the GPS out any time we park that I probably would anyway.

We had a garage on a recent vacation in Canada and we did load all the suitcases but one in the car the night before we left. Probably would have even if parked on the street, but it was nice to have it locked away in the garage.

Time of year? Perhaps I'm just overly sensitive, but I'm usually there in February, and those garages still get hot.

Living up north in NE we love the heat when we are down in Feb.

The heat in the garage has never bothered us at all. We have a lot of grudge matches going on at all times. I think I have some of the most competitive sibs and the children are following right along.

We had a houses in Rolling Hills and Windsor Palms that had usable garages. It was a PITA though with no remote door opener.
At home we have a 2 car garage and keep my car in it, the rest is for storage. I like it not for security but keeps my car cool in the summer and warmer in the winter. Also keeps it much cleaner and new-looking longer. jmho

I'm surprised to read that some of the garages get hot. Ours is never hot. :confused3 Naturally, we're one of those FL families who parks their cars in the driveway, so the door isn't opened that often. Maybe, that has something to do with it.

Which way does your garage face? as this will have a great deal to do with it.

Our florida friends garage, faces west so its gets the sun at the hotest part of the day, so it gets really hot, its usually only 2F below the outside temp in the afternoon.

Oh no..many that live here year round do in fact install AC in their garage... maybe not on rentals but in homes they own and live in.. if they use it as a room, not FL room, but a real room, there is AC...
Same with closed in lanai's on the back of the home...some will close that in and run the vents out there.

Perhaps a lot of people rent cars so it doesn't bother them?

That's probably part of it. I also think part might be a safety/insurance concern. Let people park in the garages and you increase the risk of property damage - someone pulling in a little too far in an unfamiliar car in an unfamiliar garage. Or a car leaking fluids staining the floor or causing someone to slip. Also, parking in the garage creates a fire hazard. Lots of reasons why owners might not want renters using the garage.
