Dh and I have had this arguement over and over. We are a "divided" household when it comes to our vote. (With the exception of this year....where we agree). However, dh believes that, because we live in Illinois, and it's considered a "democratic" state, that if anyone were to vote republican, that their votes don't really matter anyway. I still think that it is our duty as Americans to vote, regardless.

For those of you in a specific Red or Blue state, and are voting opposite of your states declaration...do you think your vote truly counts?

I live in NY and have voted Republican in the past, so no it didn't count.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: Oh man. Whew. I'm ok now. No, my vote does not count because I'm a Republican living in Massachusetts. All I can hope to achieve is to let someone know that there are other people here who do not share their opinions.

I absolutely think each and every vote counts, and that it is our duty and privelege as American citizens to exercise this right.

Tradtionally "blue" or traditionally "red" states have surprised us in the past. But they won't if 1/2 of the population decides not to vote because they believe their vote doesn't count.

I live in California and will be voting for McCain, so nope- my vote won't count. But I'll vote anyhow because I can and because it's my duty.

I tend to vote the opposite of the way the majority of my state does. Though this year as far as the presidential candidates go, I am not impressed with either.

I dont feel my vote will count. Never have felt that it would.

I live in Texas and am voting for Obama.

This is EXACTLY what I have told DH. He still says it would take a revolutionary miracle before our state switched to the Red. While I do see his point, I still say that it's attitudes like this that KEEP us a Blue state...because the republicans won't come out to vote like they should.

The vote counts because it's a show of force.

If only 25 Million people voted, the government could do anything without fear considering only 25 million care. (Say removing right to bear arms).

Now if 200 million people vote, the government will be careful knowing trying something the people disagree with could cause a revolution.

Every vote counts.

Well, since I am a Democrat living in the same blue state as you, I can't say I'm all that eager to go red. :goodvibes ;)

But, I still support and encourage EVERYONE to exercise their right to vote, regardless of who that vote is for. It's one of our greatest priveleges as American citizens.

FWIW, I'm not eager to go red either.....there. I said it. ;)

And it's the only way you get complaining rights fr the next 4 years!:thumbsup2

I felt the same way when I lived in Mass. It didn't make any difference if you were a Dem or Rep since the Dems dominated the state.

I think everyone should vote, it doesn't matter if they feel it "counts" or not. I guess I've been lucky in that I've always been a Florida voter, which while in past elections it's gone red it is a swing state so you never know.

I do know what it's like to be a voter in the "wrong" part of the state though, as I normally vote in North Florida, which always goes bright red, LOL.

My vote probably won't count, since I'm voting republican in Minnesota. However, I'll be voting anyway despite my co-workers who say, "why bother?":snooty:

I will admit this is the first year I have cosidered to not bother voting. I will vote for my local reps, but just not sure of I'll be pulling down that lever for president. I do however want complianing rights and since I think I will have reason to no matter who wins, I guess I should :lmao:

::yes:: What this poster said! ::yes::

If you look at politics only though the lens of your lifetime, you will say that your vote doesn't count if you live in a state that is dominated by one party.

But, what is true now was not always true in the past, and may change in the future, simply because people continue to vote against the mainstream.

I have the same dilemma only I vote Democrat in a Republican state. I haven't had my vote count since I moved to the south 23 years ago. I still voted today, hoping this is the year!!

I live in MA and no I don't believe my vote will count next week. However, I will still be voting. If Obama wins I want to have earned the right to complain for the next four years.
