I seriously can't believe I just got into an argument with my DH about this. He rarely flushes the toilet when he pees. I am sitting in the room right next to him, and I can clearly hear him peeing. He walks out of the bathroom and I snap at him about not flushing the toilet! He thinks that if he is peeing clear, what does it matter if he flushes it or not? I told him it is disgusting, and I want it flushed! He said it is a waste of water and that it "must be that time of the month" for me because *I* am acting crazy.
Ughhh...don't even get me started about him not washing his hands afterwards.

Thoughts??

I've discovered most men don't wash their hands. Every one I've asked says their junk is clean and they don't touch their pee so what's the big deal.

Not flushing grosses me out. I don't want that stuff sitting ther especially since we have dogs and never know when one of then is going to decide the toilet water is better than their fresh bowl water.

We have separate bathrooms but I'm fairly sure he always does.

That said, here in San Diego they were encouraging people to "let it mellow" if it was yellow, aka don't flush if it's just pee because of the drought, but I haven't obliged.

We are flushers here. However, when we lived in NoCal and were under severe water restrictions, we would NOT flush every time. Waste of water, and no big deal. There was no way to stay within the restrictions if you flushed every time. So, while I voted that he flushes, I also wouldn't be wigged out if he didn't, KWIM?

Your hands are dirtier than your junk. It makes more sense to wash your hands before you touch your junk. That's much more convenient than washing your junk after you pee - especially in a public bathroom.

If you really want to save water, he should be filling the tank, not the bowl.

...

In the middle of the night, NEITHER of us do as the flush noise could wake the other.

No middle of the night flushes here either. And despite the drought, during the day, we do flush.

Yep, I'm fairly certain that DH does, even though we usually use separate bathrooms. He even puts the seat down in his own bathroom!! I guess that was a habit drilled into him by his mother or ex-wife.

Now when he's in a public rest room, who knows what he does or doesn't do???

I know but he makes a big deal if we are at home and I don't wash immediately. I always saying the same thing and he's like it's nasty and I say so men don't have to wash but ladies do? I wash but sometimes I wait to walk to another sink just to make him irritated haha.

Always...if he didn't I would use that as a good excuse to assign him the chore of cleaning the bathroom. It's my least favourite chore and if the pee was just sitting there I feel like it would require extra scrubbing. He hates cleaning the bathroom and has probably done it twice in 15 years so that would probably put an end to the non-flushing.

Always!!! One place I am a it OCD is the bathroom. I keep my toothbrush on my dresser since you don't even want to know how far reaching fecal matte is when flushed. Not taking any chances.

My husband always flushes and washes his hands. I certainly don't want to be smelling urine nor looking at a dirty toilet - just gross!!

I do remember back in the late 70s drought in California there was a saying:

If it's yellow, let it mellow.

Granted - that was back when toilets were still at least 2.7 gallons, and a lot of older toilets were up to 5 gallons.

We've got 1.3 GPF high-efficiency toilets now. They actually work better than the old ones in our house that we measured as much as 4.5 gallons. They used a narrower trap, but relied on more water to do its thing. It would still clog up. The modern one rarely plugs up.

However, I'm of the opinion that once you're done, put down the toilet lid. It gives everyone some responsibility, and reduces the chance of someone dropping a random item into the toilet bowl.

I would have a bigger problem with him blaming the fact that you didn't like something on it being that time of the month.

I don't have a SO but I have my own bathroom and no, I don't flush every time I pee. Partly because of the drought and partly just because I don't like wasting water. I go to the bathroom rather frequently and find it wasteful to flush every time, and since it's my own pee it doesn't bother me, LOL. I always keep the toilet lid closed when not in use, and if we have guests then yes, I will flush it every time even though I don't like it. ;)
