Does your local HS offer Latin?

I believe our HS does offer Latin. My oldest just started Middle School & they offer Latin in 8th grade. I hope DS takes it.

Ours did but they cut it during the last budget cuts. I took Latin and am so glad I did. Also, had Greek in college. It was so much fun learning a new alphabet.

I took German and Latin in high school. I Latin is a great language to learn because most modern languages are derived from it. Helps a lot with your verbal section on your SAT too.

I went to a tiny highschool that only offered Spanish. The gifted and talented program taught Greek and Latin roots for 3 years, though, and that really helps with vocabulary.

I intend to use a Classical model of schooling with my children, and they'll learn Latin. We'll start in elementary school with it.

my highschool offers Latin and it counts as language credits. It' s a very complicated language...

Give over! American schools do Latin?

I learned Latin at my private girl's school here in the UK and I thought that was a bizarre thing that only a tiny, tiny number of the most bizarre of the Brits did! We were offered ancient Greek as well, though I didn't do it.

You know, I'm learning a lot on this board!

I learned Latin to age 16. It helped when I was learning German but to be honest I wish I'd done German instead.

DD's school has grades K through 12. All students begin learning Spanish in 3rd grade. It is carried through each year until 10th grade. All 5th graders also learn Latin.
