does US cash spend in London

We have friends getting ready to cross the pond to renew their Visas. Before heading off to visit family, they are spending a few days in London showing their kids some of the popular sights. The kids aren't big Disney fans, so I thought instead of trying to buy them something from our vacation, let them buy something on their trip. If I give them each $10-15 American dollars would they be able to spend them in London, or at least convert them maybe at their hotel ? I don't want it to be an issue for my friends to exchange the money, but wanted to sprinkle some British pixie dust on them !!

No they wouldn't be able to spend $'s here, I don't think many London hotels would change it up either.

Could you change it up to £'s for them before you give it to them?

if you converted $15 at the exchange desks you would get just around £8.00
enough to get you a gallon of fue Best bet would be getting them £10.00 each as PP try to convert before them going do you know anyone thats just come back and has any £ left you could buy from ?You could give them a better rate than the exchanges

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the possibilities from my end, the exchange rate doesn't seem very good , no wonder my friend said the trip was going to be expensive.
