Does Universal do soft openings like Disney does? Any chance for Kong public testing in May?

I have everything crossed for a soft opening in early May, but not counting on it. As long as I get to ride Gringotts once a day tho (yay EE)

One website is reporting an opening on or around June 23rd...at this point it is rumored

A lot of it will depend on how construction goes and how well the "empty runs" go before they will allow guest to go on.

We always travel late May/early June. We have done a couple soft openings and a few times have just missed soft openings by a week or two. There is no way anyone will know until it gets MUCH closer...that's why Uni doesn't set a specific date, things have snags, issues come up, etc; then people complain that it was supposed to be open...how dare they! etc

Here's hoping they will be doing soft openings when you are there though!!

Universal usually lets their Team Members see it and that may count as their soft opening

We did soft openings with Forbidden Journey and Mummy. Gringotts also had soft openings but they weren't too far in advance to the actual opening. It all depends on how things are running.

I hope to be part of that stampede for Kong, have a feeling it won't be offered until memorial day.

I do not remember them announcing, or making a scene about the soft opening for Forbidden Journey and the whole Hogsmeade area, but I was definitely there and was able to enjoy the area and the ride before the official big opening. It might be one of those things where you just have to happen to be there, but it does happen, but like others said it's unknown when the official date even is. They're still working on things.
