Does this sound too risky?

My family is thinking of doing a grand villa this summer. To fit everyones schedule it would be in July. It will cosst a hefty 620 points. There will be kids taking the trip and you kow anything can happen with kids. My question/concern is what if I have to cancel this trip on late notice. i have an AUG UY. therefore these points expire JULY 31st and of course it would be to late to bank them. So if we can't take the trip would I lose these points?:confused3

Yes, if you needed to cancel this trip after March 31, you would not be able to bank the ponts. They would need to be used or lost by July 31st. If you family is divided into several "groups" you could book several smaller units, like 2 bedrooms and studios, ad then if on group needs to cancel, just cancel the studio and lose those points. It would be less points than a GV.

Or, it is also unlikely (again assuming it is several different families going) that everyone on the trip would need to cancel, so fewer people could still go and enjoy the GV.

But if the various groups are prone to cancellations, I'd book a few smaller units instead of the GV. The kitchen would be crwded, but it would be better than losing a large number of points.

These are the joys of traveling with extended family and friends. I have a rule. If they cancel for anything less than an actual emergency, they are not invited back, ever. So far, there are two people on my "never again" list.

I was in this situation last year and decided to book 5 studios instead. Everyone ended up coming as scheduled and we all decided that we preferred having the individual studios anyway.

I would be amazed if you could find a GV anywhere at this late date.:scared1:
