We're doing a charitable donation instead of traditional favors. I am not looking for the debate that it sparked last time. I am simply checking to see if this wording sounds OK. I found a wonderful LiveSTRONG image to put at the bottom of the wording. I will try to post it here, as well.

As some of you may know, both Brye and I lost close childhood friends this past year to cancer. While initially we were going to make donations to individula foundaitons established in their names, we though the money would go much further by choosing the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Both of them were very active in the LiveSTRONG campaign... and lived by it while battling their cancers. We're avoiding naming names here becuase we have each lost so many loved ones to cancer. We found that a common thread amongst them was how courageously they fought their battles... they all lived strong... much of the time comforting the rest of us.

To be placed in frames on each table:

Dear Friends and Family,

We have chosen a special way to say, “Thank you,” for sharing our wedding day with us…one that makes a lasting difference.

In lieu of traditional favors, we have made a donation in your honor to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The Lance Armstrong Foundation believes that in the battle with cancer, unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. Donations to the Lance Armstrong Foundation help to fund education, advocacy, and research programs needed in the fight against cancer.

I really like it, Jill. You have an extra "that" before "in the battle with cancer". I am not sure if you need the commas surrounding "Thank You" in the first line. Just a thought...if you donate to the foundation, can you get the wristbands and give those out? Overall, I think it is a beautiful sentiment. I just read on The Knot of a featured couple that did the same thing for their favors.

That's a great idea Jill! I think cancer has had an influence on everyone, in one way or another. You're doing a good thing!

Thanks- I caught the extra, "That," right around the time it was posted.

I am fairly certain I do need the commas. You always need them to separate a quotation. If the sentence doesn't end with the quotation, you need a comma inside the quotation to set it apart. If there is another rule (or I am thinking of the wrong one!) please let me know ASAP! We're about to print these suckers out and get them into frames.

I will email it to my brother (English professor) to be sure though.

We purchased a case of 100 of the wristbands to distribute to our guests. They only come in cases of 10, 100, or 1000, so we called and made a separate and private donation up to the amount we had planned on giving. They wer every easy to work with.

I guess I can leave my band on for the wedding now, huh?! :rotfl: My mom actually asked me if I was going to remember to take it off or if I was going to have this bright yellow strap around my wrist for all the photos. Just one of thoe things that never comes off (and hasn't except for a few hours in the past 18 months).

That will be so nice...I think you should totally get a group shot at the reception with everyone holding up their arms with the band on...maybe flashing a V for victory....

I would definitely defer to the english prof on the quotations. I just thought because you aren't quoting someone, but rather setting off a phrase for emphasis. Anyways, english class was a long time ago.... :)

very cool! not that you really needed to give stuff to your guests, but that's a really neat touch! I also like WDWbride2007's suggestion!

Yeah... me, too! I think we might have to let the photographers know that, too!

xoxo

You don't need the quotes or the commas. If you choose to use the quotes, you don't need the commas. Hard to explain, but you don't have to use them for that particular type of quote. (I know, I know it makes no sense) If I wasn't so lazy I'd go look it up in the style manual thingy (that's the technical term), but it's Friday night and I'm definitely feeling lazy.

i think its a great idea jill. i personally wouldnt use the quotes but whatevers clever. were considering doing something similiar for favors with the autism society & cure autism now.
