Does this mean war??

Dopey, may the BIG GUY bestow you with much health and peace of mind for the coming year.........:D :D :D

I have a suggestion EROS...Since you are so "ANTI" everything our government does, why not move to a country where the government TELLS you when to speak, what to say and who to say it to, how to live and when they expect you to die.

Freedom comes with a price. We all know it and MOST accept it. All I ever hear out of you is how BAD this country and our laws are. Try going "over there" and using an internet board to post your......"views" and see how long you last. At least you can do that here without being arrested........unfortunate as that is......

MOVE Go to Iraq, Libya or North Korea. They will give you everything you seem to need. Maybe they will even let you wear a rag on your head and burn an American flag and shout KILL ALL AMERICAN PIGS.....You know the old saying..."This is America ....Love it or LEAVE it.....

I am SO sick of you retoric....

Tony that was quite well said. Merry Christmas to you too dear!

..........and with the troops that our Commander-in-Chief will get killed..........and with the innocent Iraqi women and children who will die in a devastating attack from the sky
Nice to know you've got such a knack for predicting the future... I'll have to keep you in mind when I'm stuck on an over/under...

Yes, Eros, innocents die in war. And when truly evil and ambitious men like Hussein (no rhetoric needed to get that point across) are not dealt with soon enough, even more innocents die. Americans AND Iraqi.

You may be willing to try to save the lives of "thousands" today so that 10's of "thousands" can die tomorrow, but fortunately, some others are not.

Yes, it probably means war.

And despite the fact that this thread has taken on a life of its own  suffice it to say that there are MANY MANY Americans who do not agree with declaring war on a country who has not attacked us.

Michelle, I "hope" that you're not one of those PINKOES     .......

On the DIS, we shoot Iraqis FIRST................... and ask questions.........LATER:( :( :(

Same was true in the years leading up to 1941. In fact, it was a majority.

If this man won't even disclose properly, and therefore is clearly hiding WMD, what else should we do? Wait until he acquires more sophisticated delivery systems?

Nope, actually we use diplomatic means, along with sanctions for 10+ years first.

Just wondering how much more time you think Hussein needs?

Hey, matt............. IRAN AND N. KOREA are much further along in their nuclear programs than IRAQ.:( :( :( . Their support of anti-US terrorism is well documented. Perhaps we should go for the "TRIFECTA" and bomb 'em all to HELL

No need to bomb anyone to HELL, just as we didn't bomb Iraq to HELL in the Gulf War. (Do you even believe there's a hell?)

We have tried to get Iraq to become a responsible world citizen for 10 years now, I see no reason to take such a hard stance with Iran and N. Korea after a few weeks and months, respectively.

TennVolTony.... I forgot which branch of the military that you served in. I'm curious as to whether or not you have been involved in a war.

I guess I wasn't thinking when I made this post. I should have known it was an open invitation for someone to get on his bedpan and spout his usual "stuff"..

But the plain and simple facts are this DOC  ....The United States has not set the rules for dealing with this problem alone. We have the backing and support of a little thing called the UNITED NATIONS. Saddam has been shown the rule book. It's his choice if Iraq gets blown to hell as you put it. Diploamcy seems to have failed. It's time we got this fools attention.

Michelle...in a sense we have been attacked. We were attacked on 9/11... Don't for a MINUTE think Saddam didn't help that effort. He DID......That alone should be enough disarm that country....By whatever means is needed.

It is still beyond me EROS how you can show compassion for the people of a country that would kill you on sight just because you are an AMERICAN...... We aren't the bully here, as you have put it in the past. But you can bet your butt we won't be BULLIED either!!

Okay, I understand this is an important and emotional topic. . but please; it is possible to state an opinion on this without making it personal towards any single poster. . in other words; chill on the personal attacks. . :)

Now, my take on this? We're going to war because Bush wants it, and when a President is that insistent, it'll happen. .

I have no clue if Saddam's such a threat now or in the future that this is necessary; it does bother that the Bush administration keeps claiming to have all this proof but refuses to share it with any of our allies. .

But the big question I have is: what happens after we take Saddam out? That is such a volatile part of the world, and I've yet to get the idea there has been any firm plans as to what happens past actually toppling Saddam. . .

For the record, I have a great deal of compassion for people, even those who would kill me on sight. My heart sank whenever I heard of innocent civilians (women, children AND men) being killed in Afghanistan.

I don't cry very often, but I shed a tear or three when I stood on the Arizona Memorial and looked at the names, and stared at the tomb just under the water.

I pray for peace, and I pray that somehow men like Hussein can somehow be stopped peacfully. I am saddened at the thought of the thousands of his OWN PEOPLE that he has killed, and continues to kill. Only UN resolutions keep him from continuing his own ethnic cleansing on as massive a scale as he once did.

But there comes a time when further steps are necessary. Maybe if we had done things differently at some point in the past that man would not be in the position that he is today.

But he is.

Its clear what his ambitions are, and he is not going away by himself, nor is anybody else willing to do anything about it. There have been ample warnings. Plenty of opportunities.

Even now, he has the chance to stop all of this insanity.

Regretably, it appears he has already made his decision.

I hope with everything I am that I am wrong. But I fear that I am right. And if I am, we will have to set aside that fear and do what must be done.

Well lets see JJS....I was named after an uncle who was killed in WWII on D-Day. 3 other uncles were killed in Korea. I saw it in my grandparents eyes when I was a boy and they told me about my uncles. Their pictures and medals and the letters from The WhiteHouse still hang in thier house. I saw it in my father who never really got to know a brother. So in a way I guess you can say that I do know war.....Does that answer your question??

That question has nothing to do with this thread.

My uncles, and the many other men and women who have benn killed in defense of this country insured me the right to express my opinions......just as it does for you and EROS....

I understand Eros's concerns. He sees George Bush as trying to start a war strictly out of vengence. I honestly don't understand why he sees it this way, but if I had that point of veiw, I would be screaming too.

If Iraq has weapons of mass distruction and is planning on using them on us, then we must prevent them from doing so. So the questions are:

1) Can we prove these weapons exist in such a way that everyone will feel certain about what we need to do? If we cant prove it, what is the wisest course of action?

2) If we can prove it, can we do this without tipping our hand to Iraq in such a way that they can hide such weapons before we can expose them?

I disagree with Eros on Bush's motavayions, but I understand his concerns. We are talking about invading another country here. We had better damned well be right. This sort of action should NEVER be taken lightly. At the same time, we may not have the luxury of waiting until we can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that we arr right. The problem is compounded by the fact that neither Eros or I know (or can know) all the facts at this point, so we are left to draw upon our own interpretation of the situation and our opinoin of our leaders when drawing conlcusions.

I will be honest, this situation scares me. If Eros is right and we invade unnessecarily, we will have killed thousands of people for no good reason. If Bush is right and Iraq is preparing to strike at us, thousands of our own people may die if we wait too long.

I must admit, I do not know what action is right and what action is wrong here. I trust our president more than some who post here, but I freely admit I don't have enough real information to form an reliable opinion, and so I fall back on my trust in God. I pray that our president and all the leaders of the world (including Sadam) consider the lives they hold in their hands and act wisely and with prudence.

suffice it to say that there are MANY MANY Americans who do not agree with declaring war on a country who has not attacked us.

Is it your position that we should wait to be attacked before we act? Sorry, but I see no need to have innocent Americans die in such a scenario. And wouldn't you love to see the headlines after that attack "Members of the 'Huddle in the corner and wait to be attacked' Crowd Assail Bush Administration for Failing to Stop Hussein Before He Attacked Us"

"I don't know why President Bush didn't do something to stop this attack - we could have leveled Baghdad by now, and all of these innocent American lives wouldn't have been lost"

"Left Calls For Bush's Head After Failure to Address Iraq Threat"

Give me a break....

TennVolTony.... I forgot which branch of the military that you served in. I'm curious as to whether or not you have been involved in a war.

As completely irrelevant as this question is, I see it asked by someone every single time one of these conversations occur. Excuse me, but must one have served in combat before one can advocate military action as being the best interest of the country?

And EROS, why don't you offer some suggestions (lucid, if possible) to this crisis...you have the criticism part down quite well, but are lacking in the idea department thus far.
