Castro played an important role in the Cold War. He can partly be blamed for the Cuban Missile Crisis, because he didnt have to let the Soviet Union set up their missiles in Cuba. However, Castro thought that it would protect Cuba from being invaded by the Americans. The Soviet Union was only using him, and treating Cuba like an insignificant island in the middle of the Caribbean. When détente came around, he began to slowly put aside the bad relationship he had with the United States. The two nations were on a brink of an agreement. The only that Castro needed to learn was that not everybody can be trusted.
For history we have to put together a scarpbook about the Cold War. I chose to do Castro. Im just putting this at the end though...
