I tried to addon at AKV yesterday. I could not do so because my UY was not available. I gave a CC number and was placed on a waiting list. I have been thinking about how the points may "show up". With the incentive, I was going to pay $96 per point. Wouldn't disney search the resale market to find points for me? They can ROFR at $90 and still make $6 a point on me. How else would points become available to take names off a wait list?

That would be one option...
But they do not just search the resale boards a contrcat would have to get to the ROFR stage first it would have to make sense for them to buy it back. For example if you are looking to buy 25 points and the all of the contracts are for 200 points it may not make sense if you are the only one on the waitlist.
DVC is building Kadani and sooner or later your UY will be avaiable which will likely make more sense if the frame is reasonable.

I've often wondered if the current waitlist affects ROFR decsions/price points. It seems to make sense that it would, but I have no idea really. They are probably not looking nearly that short-term.

DVC doesn't make enough money on the resales to justify doing it for that reason. Plus it takes a while, usually a couple of months or longer, before any ROFR points are available to sell. This is normal and common. One can always buy resale, add on a different resort, wait for points to be available or add on a different use year (subject to the minimum points). As units are declared, more inventory will be released so I doubt it'll be too long to wait.

How else would points become available to take names off a wait list?
They have only declared maybe 30% or so of Kidani? There will be a lot more Units coming online over the next year or more before the resort sells out. Each declared Unit consists of several rooms and is tied to one UY. They declare new Units every couple of months or so. It's possible that the next round of declarations will include a Unit for your UY.

ETA: Another way that points become available is if someone backs out of a purchase. Sometimes people put down a deposit (which takes the points they want to purchase out of the pool) and then they sit on the paperwork for a while and end up canceling their purchase. Those points go back into the pool. It probably doesn't happen that often but I think some people who wanted points from Jambo Units after Jambo was sold out managed to get points that way.

ETA: This thread is tracking the Units in Kidani.
