Does the Tower of Terror really need the "Twilight Zone"?

In regards to the Tower of Terror, it seems it can easily survive without the Twilight Zone theme. Being called the Hollywood Tower Hotel and noted as the hotel of the Hollywood elite is enough to theme with the area.
To remove the Twilight Zone would cause very little alteration for Disney to rework a storyline. It would also save alot of money in regards to copyrights.

I would LOVE for Disney to transform the area, where you travel forward, to be like a combo of a 1930s ballroom/bandstand with ghosts dancing and playing music. To travel through that before you drop would be fantastic!!!!!

A big eye and clock just does not do it for me!!!! There is SOOOO much potential for that area!!!!!

Have you ever seen the original Episode this is based on? Disney also made a Movie 1997, "Tower of Terror" with Steve Guttenberg nad Kirsten Dunst.
I see no issues with the theming... The Twilight Zone spans generations IMHO.

I am not saying it is bad. I just do not think it is needed. Without it Disney can make it their own.

Disney did make their own theme for the Tower of Terror in Tokyo DisneySea, it's themed to ~1910 New York and the hotel of a famous millionaire who collected artifacts from all over the world, then one he brings back is cursed.....

Tower of Terror COULD very much survive without the Twilight Zone, but I enjoy it the way it is. Old school Hollywood and all.

DING! Best answer.

I've been to the Tokyo one many times, and really enjoy it. But I like the one at WDW best and love the TZ theming.

A warm welcome back, for those of you who made it...

It could but shouldn't and the storyline you describe and the awsome one from TDS would not be appropriate for DHS.

Good point.

And there is no reason to retheme it, CBS already owns all the rights to TZ and it doesn't cost Disney anything to keep it theme'd the way it is.

I did not know this was based on an actual episode, and for me the best part of New Years is the SYFY marathon of Twilight Zone, so I am shocked i have never seen it . I noticed once that the opening scene is exactly the same as the episode with the boy who sends the bad people to the corn field. that one starts out with "as you may notice this is a Map of the United states" The Ride starts out with "as you may notice" they then stop showing Rod Serling and go to elivator doors then replace Map of the United states with "Maintence service elevator" Then whenever ther is anything ride specific they do not show Rod. So I always thought this storyline was unique to the ride. I really want to see this episode.

ok, but what u think of the idea changing the area where the riding vehicle travels forward to be a 1930s ballroom???

It IS unique to the ride, there isn't any specific episode it's based on

I agree that the Tower would most definitely survive without the Twilight Zone tag, but I think a lot of people enjoy the references that it has to the television series. Disney differentiates itself from other theme parks with the fact that it employs a great use of outside material, (The George Lucas franchises, The Twilight Zone, the Muppets to name a few) inside of the parks. Plus, the attraction simply wouldn't be the same without Rod Serling. One of my favorite voices of all time.

It was not based on an episode. Using some edited footage and a Serling impersonator, they basically created a "lost" episode in which you take part.

However, if you pay really close attention and are a fan of the original, you'll see plenty of items from episodes...

I don't see any reason to remove the connection just because it might be able to do without.

I stand corrected... I was confusing it with an episode entitled "Twenty Two" in which a woman keeps having a dream of taking a service elevator to the basement of a Hospital... she comes up to the morge and a Nurse says "Room for One more honey!" I haven't seen this one in ages... I knew there was a service elevator in an episode.

Nevertheless... the theming works great... it it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Why in the world would you want to remove the Twilight Zone themeing? How would this possibly make the ride better. Even adding some stuff as the elevator moves forward could be done without changing the themeing. Taking away Rod Serling and the Twilight Zone theme music --- just an awful Idea.

What ever the pastiche is, TOT is one of the best attractions at WDW. :earsboy:

Agreed. If you're a fan of the show, you can find plenty of references throughout the ride other than just the trip through the 5th dimension. Using TZ also gives a good setup for why the ride is happening. It could be replaced, of course, but the TZ is a general pop culture phenomenon that most people can recognize. Play that music, and they know weird stuff is about to happen.

Right... why not change awesome just for the sake of it?

Yes it could work... it does in other parks. But there is absolutely no reason too. They can re-theme that whole area anyway they want with the ride as is... Heck the original hotel the architecture is based on is not even a hotel.

From the first time I saw it, I've always wondered why they didn't attach a high-end hotel to the ride.

The Twilight Zone theme doesn't bother me. Maybe it would if I was younger, but we watched that show every week when I was a kid.

I liked the twilight zone tv shows...and see some references here at California TOT I think its great the way it is. Last time I rode it was 3yrs ago..so it might have changed...but we liked it :)
